Removal And Installation PHEV: Removal

- Perform the fuel pressure release procedure. Refer to FUEL SYSTEM PRESSURE RELEASE .
- Drain the engine cooling system. Refer to DRAINING .
- Drain the low temp cooling system. Refer to DRAINING .
- Drain the battery cooling system. Refer to BATTERY COOLING, STANDARD PROCEDURE .
- Drain the engine oil. Refer to ENGINE OIL AND FILTER CHANGE .
- Remove the support and lower the vehicle.
- Recover the A/C system refrigerant. Refer to R-1234YF REFRIGERANT SYSTEM RECOVERY
- Power down the high voltage system. Refer to HIGH VOLTAGE POWER DOWN
- Remove the catalytic converter. Refer to CONVERTER, CATALYTIC, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
- Remove the battery skid plate. Refer to BATTERY SKID PLATE
- Remove the top and side engine covers.
- Remove the coolant line bracket nut from the top of turbocharger.
- Remove the Charge Air Cooler (CAC) inlet tube. Refer to CHARGE AIR COOLER INLET TUBE
- Remove the rear drive shaft. Refer to REAR DRIVESHAFT .
- Remove the front drive shaft. Refer to FRONT DRIVESHAFT .
- Remove the high voltage wire harness retainers from the transfer case shield bracket.
- Remove the bolts and the transfer case shield bracket.
- Remove the two transfer case wire harness retainers from the right side of transfer case
- Lower the transmission.
- Remove the lower fuel injection pump shield nuts and the fuel injection pump shield.
1 - Lower Fuel Injection Pump Shield 2 - Fuel Injection Pump Shield Isolator Nuts - Remove the bolt securing the coolant tube to the high voltage bracket (right side rear).
- Remove the bolts securing the coolant tube to engine block and position aside the coolant tube (right side rear).
- Remove the bolts securing the high voltage cable to the transmission (right side).
- Remove the high voltage cable retainer from the transmission and position aside the wire harness (right side).
- Install the transmission crossmember and securely tighten the bolts.
- Remove the jack from under the transmission.
- Remove support and lower the vehicle.
- Position a jack under the transmission and slightly raise the transmission.
- Remove the upper fuel injection pump shield bolt and the fuel injection pump shield.
1 - Upper Fuel Injection Pump Shield 2 - Upper Fuel Injection Pump Shield Bolts - Remove the jack from under the transmission.
- Remove the Motor Generator Unit (MGU). Refer to MOTORS, ELECTRIC DRIVE, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
- Remove the pressurized coolant bottle. Refer to BOTTLE, COOLANT, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
- Remove the low temp pressurized coolant bottle. Refer to BOTTLE, COOLANT, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
- Remove the battery pressurized coolant bottle. Refer to RESERVOIR, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
- Remove the hood. Refer to REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION
- Remove the transmission vent hose retainers and position aside the hose.
- Disconnect the fuel pressure sensor wire harness connector.
1 - Fuel Pressure Sensor Wire Harness Connector 2 - Fuel Pressure Sensor - Detach the fuel line retainer.
- Remove the fuel line safety lock.
- Disconnect the front fuel supply line quick-connect fitting.
1 - Fuel Line Safety Lock 2 - Fuel Supply Line Quick-Connect Fitting - Disconnect the small coolant hose from the top of the coolant manifold.
- Disconnect the CAC coolant temperature sensor wire harness connector.
1 - Charge Air Cooler Coolant Temperature Sensor Harness Connector - Disconnect the coolant inlet hose quick-connect fitting from the charge air cooler Y-fitting and position aside.
- Remove the nut securing the coolant tube to the bracket.
- Disconnect the coolant outlet hose quick-connect fitting from the charge air cooler and position aside.
1 - Coolant Inlet Hose Quick-Connect Fitting 2 - Coolant Outlet Hose Quick-Connect Fitting - Disconnect the engine wire harness connector under the PCM.
- Detach the two wire harness retainers from body (right side).
- Remove the wire harness retainer from the front differential support bracket.
- Remove the ground cable bolt and position aside the ground cable. (right side)
1 - Ground Cable Bolt 2 - Ground Cable - Remove the A/C compressor. Refer to REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION
- Disconnect the lower heater hose.
- Disconnect the lower radiator hose.
1 - Heater Hose 2 - Lower Radiator Hose - Remove the intermediate shaft. Refer to SHAFT, INTERMEDIATE, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
- Remove the left engine mount heat shield nuts and the heat shield.
1 - Heat Shield Nuts 2 - Heat Shield - Remove the two retainers securing the manual park release cable to the rear of the cylinder head cover (left side).
- Remove the left and right half shafts. Refer to REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
- Detach the transmission wire harness retainers from bottom of the intake manifold and position aside the wire harness.
- Remove the transmission with transfercase. Refer to REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION
- Remove the bolts securing the A/C lines to the shock tower.
- Remove the coolant bottle bracket bolts and the coolant bottle bracket.
1 - Coolant Bottle Bracket 2 - Coolant Bottle Bracket Bolts - Remove the battery chiller. Refer to REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION
- Disconnect the coolant hose on the right shock tower.
- Install suitable engine lifting brackets to the engine and position a load-leveling lifting sling between the engine and an engine hoist.
- Remove the left lower engine mount bolts.
1 - Engine Mount Stud Bolts 2 - Engine Mount Bolts 3 - Engine Mount - Remove the right lower engine mount bolts.
1 - Engine Mount Stud Bolts 2 - Engine Mount Bolts 3 - Engine Mount - Carefully remove the engine from the engine bay.
- If required, remove the necessary components for installation onto the replacement engine.
