Turbocharger System: Turbocharger: Installation

  1. Install a NEW  exhaust manifold heat shield. Refer to MANIFOLD, EXHAUST, INSTALLATION .

    NOTE:

    Do not lift the turbocharger by the wastegate lever (1).

  2. Engage the turbocharger to the air outlet hose and install the turbocharger (2) with a NEW  upper front nut (1) finger tight.

  3. Install the two NEW  rear nuts (1) finger tight.

  4. Tighten the three nuts in the sequence shown in illustration in two steps. Tighten according to the following torque values:
    • Step 1: All to 12 N.m (9 ft. lbs.)
    • Step 2: All to 25 N.m (18 ft. lbs.)

  5. Install the turbocharger heat shield (2) with two bolts and one nut (1) tightened to the proper torque specification. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .

  6. Install the NEW  lower front turbocharger to cylinder head nut (1) to the turbocharger heat shield and tightened to the proper torque specification. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
  7. Retighten the lower rear turbocharger nut (2) to 25 N.m (18 ft. lbs.).

  8. Ensure the turbocharger air outlet hose (1) is fully seated against the machined stop on the turbocharger outlet and tighten the turbocharger air outlet hose clamp (2) to the proper torque specification. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .

  9. Connect the turbocharger wastegate actuator wire harness connector (1).

  10. Install the surge valve bypass pipe (1) to the turbocharger and tighten the band clamp.

  11. Install the turbocharger coolant return pipe (1) to the turbocharger with a NEW  O-ring.
  12. Install the turbocharger coolant supply pipe (3) to the turbocharger with a NEW  O-ring and tighten the bolt (2) to the proper torque specification. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
  13. Install the dipstick. Refer to DIPSTICK TUBE, ENGINE OIL, INSTALLATION .
  14. Install the turbocharger oil supply pipe. Refer to LINES, TUBES AND HOSES, TURBOCHARGER, OIL AND COOLANT, INSTALLATION .
  15. Install the turbocharger oil return pipe. Refer to LINES, TUBES AND HOSES, TURBOCHARGER, OIL AND COOLANT, INSTALLATION .
  16. Install the catalytic converter. Refer to CONVERTER, CATALYTIC, INSTALLATION .
  17. Install the crankcase pressure senor and mounting bracket. Refer to SENSOR, CRANKCASE PRESSURE, INSTALLATION .
  18. Install the clean air hose. Refer to HOSE, CLEAN AIR, INSTALLATION .
  19. Fill the coolant system. Refer to COOLING SYSTEM, STANDARD PROCEDURE .
  20. Install the top engine cover. Refer to COVER, ENGINE, INSTALLATION .
  21. Connect the negative battery cable. If equipped with an Intelligent Battery Sensor (IBS), connect the IBS connector to the negative battery cable.
  22. Remove the support and lower the vehicle.
