Panel, Instrument: Installation

NOTE:

Installation of the instrument panel will require the use of three people, one on each end and one in the middle.

  1. Verify that the six mounting bushings (1) are fully retracted and rotate freely.

  2. Place the instrument panel into the vehicle.
  3. Line up the marks on the tape made during removal to aid installation.

    NOTE:

    Use a deep well socket with a full cut to install the instrument panel carrier hinge pillar fasteners. The carrier fasteners design will not allow a partial cut socket to access.

  4. Place round bladed tools (3) or equivalent, into the lower instrument panel mounting holes located in the hinge pillar on both sides of the vehicle.
  5. Start the upper fastener (1) on both sides of the vehicle.

  6. Have the center person push the instrument panel forward to load the Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) housing seal (1) against the vehicle steel instrument panel. Continue to load the seal until the instrument panel carrier hinge pillar fasteners and instrument panel carrier to lower plenum fastener has been installed and tighten to the proper torque specification. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .

  7. Verify that proper alignment is still being maintained. Adjust as necessary.
  8. Install the upper instrument panel carrier to hinge pillar fasteners (1) and tighten to the proper torque specification. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
  9. Remove the alignment punch or equivalent from both sides.
    NOTE:

    It will be necessary to wait at least five minutes and recheck the torque on the side support bolts.

  10. Install the lower instrument panel carrier hinge pillar fasteners (1) and tighten to the proper torque specification. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .

  11. Using a pocket ruler (4) or equivalent, verify that the side to side instrument panel measurements (3) are the same as during removal.
  12. If necessary, loosen the instrument panel side fasteners and repeat steps 6 through 10 until correct instrument panel positioning is maintained.
    NOTE:

    If the instrument panel position is incorrect it may interfere with proper door operation.

  13. Install the instrument panel to plenum fasteners (1) and tighten to the proper torque specification. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
  14. The center assistant may now stop loading the instrument panel forward.
  15. Install the access plug covers into the instrument panel carrier to hinge pillar fastener holes.
  16. Install the wiper linkage. Refer to LINKAGE, WIPER ARM, INSTALLATION .

  17. From under the passenger side of the instrument panel, connect the body to dash wire harness connectors (1).
  18. Connect the coaxial connectors (2), if equipped.
  19. Install the glove box. Refer to GLOVE BOX, INSTRUMENT PANEL, INSTALLATION .

  20. Insert the air conditioning drain tube to the floor valve.
  21. With the use of pliers or equivalent, connect the air conditioning drain tube clamp (4).
  22. Engage the ground wires to the studs on the floor, then install the fasteners (3). Tighten the fasteners securely.
  23. Install the instrument panel to floor bracket fasteners (1) and tighten securely.
  24. Connect the wire harness connectors to the Body Control Module (BCM).

  25. Install the steering column (1). Refer to COLUMN, INSTALLATION .
  26. Install the steering column gap hider fasteners (3) and tighten securely.
  27. If equipped, install the knee blocker airbag. Refer to AIR BAG, KNEE BLOCKER, INSTALLATION .
  28. Connect the wire harness connector for the passenger airbag.
  29. Install the lower instrument panel silencer panels. Refer to PANEL, SILENCER, LOWER, INSTALLATION .

  30. Connect the A-pillar wire harness connectors (2) on both sides of the vehicle.
  31. Connect wire harness connectors (2) to the side of the instrument panel (1).

  32. Install the defroster grille. Refer to GRILLE, DEFROSTER, INSTALLATION .

  33. Position the speaker covers (1) into place and seat fully.

  34. Lift up on front carpet to gain access. Install the HVAC floor ducts (1) and install the bracket (2).

  35. Position the front door sill scuff panel (1).
  36. Hand tap to engage the retaining clips securing the front door sill scuff panel (1) to the door sill and lower B-pillar.
  37. Install the A-pillar trim. Refer to PANEL, A-PILLAR TRIM, INSTALLATION .

  38. Install the radio support bracket (1) and install the fasteners (2). Tighten the fasteners securely.
  39. Install the instrument panel center bezel. Refer to BEZEL, INSTRUMENT PANEL, CENTER, INSTALLATION .

  40. Position the harness (1) into place and seat the retainers fully.

  41. Position the storage bin (1) into place in the instrument panel top cover (2) and seat fully.

  42. Install the storage bin fasteners (2).
  43. Install center speaker cover (1) and seat fully.
  44. Install the transmission shifter. Refer to SHIFTER, FLOOR CONSOLE, INSTALLATION .
  45. Install the floor console. Refer to CONSOLE, FLOOR, INSTALLATION .

  46. Check the instrument panel carrier hinge pillar fasteners and tighten to the proper torque specification. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
  47. Install the front doors (1). Refer to DOOR, INSTALLATION .

  48. Remove plugs or tape that was placed over the open refrigerant lines (1) and (5) during removal.
  49. Connect the air conditioning refrigerant lines (1) and (5) to the evaporator.
  50. Install fastener (4) and tighten to the proper torque specifications. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
  51. Remove the plugs or tape that was placed over the open heater core tubes to prevent coolant during removal.
  52. Connect the heater core hoses (2) and (3) to the heater core.
  53. Charge the air conditioning system. Refer to PLUMBING, STANDARD PROCEDURE .
  54. Fill the cooling system. Refer to 2.0L, COOLING SYSTEM, STANDARD PROCEDURE or 2.4L COOLING SYSTEM, STANDARD PROCEDURE .
  55. Connect the negative battery cable. If equipped with an Intelligent Battery Sensor (IBS), connect the IBS connector.
