Pad, Instrument Panel: Installation

WARNING:

To avoid serious or fatal injury on vehicles equipped with airbags, disable the Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) before attempting any steering wheel, steering column, airbag, Occupant Classification System (OCS), seat belt tensioner, impact sensor or instrument panel component diagnosis or service. Disconnect and isolate the battery negative (ground) cable, then wait two minutes for the system capacitor to discharge before performing further diagnosis or service. This is the only sure way to disable the SRS. Failure to follow these instructions may result in accidental airbag deployment.

WARNING:

To avoid serious or fatal injury when removing a deployed airbag, rubber gloves, eye protection, and a long-sleeved shirt should be worn. There may be deposits on the airbag unit and other interior surfaces. In large doses, these deposits may cause irritation to the skin and eyes.

WARNING:

To avoid serious or fatal injury, use extreme care to prevent any foreign material from entering the passenger airbag, or becoming entrapped between the passenger airbag cushion and the instrument panel top pad. Failure to observe this warning could result in occupant injuries upon airbag deployment.

  1. Position the instrument panel pad (1) into the vehicle.
  2. Connect sun sensor and center stack wiring retainers into the instrument panel pad (1).
  3. Position the instrument panel pad to the dash carrier fully.

  4. From under the instrument panel, install the fasteners (1) securing the duct work to the Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) housing and tighten securely.

  5. Install the instrument panel pad fasteners (1) in the cluster opening and the fasteners (2) at the center opening. Tighten the fasteners securely.

  6. Install the instrument panel pad fasteners (1).

  8. Position the lower instrument panel surround panel (1) back into place and seat the retaining clips fully.

  11. Position the harness (1), if equipped, and secure fully to the instrument panel pad.

  12. Position the storage bin (1) into place to the instrument panel pad (2) and seat fully.

  13. Install the fastener in the storage bin (4) and install rubber mat (3).
  14. Install the fasteners (2) and tighten them securely.
  15. Install the speaker, if equipped.
  16. Install center speaker cover (1) and seat fully.

  17. Reach through and above the glove box opening and install the passenger air bag. Refer to AIR BAG, PASSENGER, INSTALLATION .
  18. If equipped, install the amplifier. Refer to AMPLIFIER, INSTALLATION .

  19. Install the radio support bracket (1) and install the fasteners (2). Tighten the fasteners securely.
  20. Install the security gateway module. Refer to MODULE, SECURITY GATEWAY (SGW), INSTALLATION .
  21. Install the radio. Refer to RADIO, INSTALLATION .
  22. Install the Instrument Panel Center Bezel. Refer to BEZEL, INSTRUMENT PANEL, CENTER, INSTALLATION .

  23. Located under the passenger side of instrument panel, connect the body to dash wire harness connectors (1).
  24. Connect the coaxial connectors (2), if so equipped.
  25. Install both of the silencer panels. Refer to PANEL, SILENCER, LOWER, INSTALLATION .
  26. Install the defroster grille. Refer to GRILLE, DEFROSTER, INSTALLATION .
  27. Install the floor console. Refer to CONSOLE, FLOOR, INSTALLATION .
  28. Install the steering column. Refer to COLUMN, INSTALLATION .
  29. Install the instrument cluster. Refer to INSTRUMENT CLUSTER, INSTALLATION .
  30. Install the glove box assembly. Refer to GLOVE BOX, INSTRUMENT PANEL, INSTALLATION .

  31. Connect the A-pillar wire harness connectors.
  32. Fasten the harness and connector (2) into the dash side (1) on both sides of the vehicle.

  33. Position the front door sill scuff panel (1).
  34. Hand tap to engage the retaining clips securing the front door sill scuff panel (1) to the door sill and lower B-pillar.
  35. Install the A-pillar trim. Refer to PANEL, A-PILLAR TRIM, INSTALLATION .
  36. Install the instrument panel speakers. Refer to SPEAKER, INSTALLATION .
  37. Do not reconnect the negative cable to the battery at this time. The Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) Verification Test procedure should be performed following service of any SRS component. Refer to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST .
