Main Battery

REMOVAL 

WARNING:

To protect the hands from battery acid, a suitable pair of heavy duty rubber gloves should be worn when removing or servicing a battery. Safety glasses also should be worn.

WARNING:

Remove metallic jewelry to avoid injury by accidental arcing of battery current.

  1. Position the driver seat fully forward and fully raised.
  2. Remove the rear heat floor duct. Refer to DUCT, FLOOR DISTRIBUTION, REAR, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
  3. Remove the Intelligent Battery Sensor-1 (IBS1). Refer to SENSOR, INTELLIGENT BATTERY (IBS) [EZH], REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
  4. Remove the negative battery cable(s). Refer to BATTERY DISCONNECT AND CONNECT  .

  5. Loosen the positive battery cable end nut and remove the positive battery cable.
  6. Remove the battery vent tube.

  7. Remove the fasteners from the battery hold-down. Remove the battery hold-down that secures the battery to the tray.

  8. Remove the battery from the vehicle.

INSTALLATION

  1. Position the battery for installation.

    1 - Battery Hold-Down Bolts/Nuts
    2 - Battery Hold-Down
  2. Position the battery hold-down in place, and install and tighten the fasteners to the proper torque specification. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .
  3. Install the battery thermal cover over the battery.

  4. Connect the positive battery cable and tighten the positive battery cable nut to the proper torque specification. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .
  5. Install the battery vent tube.
  6. Install the Intelligent Battery Sensor (IBS). Refer to SENSOR, INTELLIGENT BATTERY (IBS) [EZH], REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
  7. Connect the negative battery cable(s). Refer to BATTERY DISCONNECT AND CONNECT  .
  8. Install the rear heat floor duct. Refer to DUCT, FLOOR DISTRIBUTION, REAR, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
