Transmission Assembly (8HP75)

REMOVAL 

  1. Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable(s). Refer to BATTERY DISCONNECT AND CONNECT - 5.7L .
  2. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to HOISTING, STANDARD PROCEDURE .
  3. Drain the cooling system. Refer to DRAINING .
  4. Remove the transmission belly pan. Refer to BELLY PAN, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
  5. Remove the stiffening plate. Refer to PLATE, STIFFENING, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
  6. Remove the front suspension skid plate. Refer to PLATE, SKID, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
  7. Remove the exhaust muffler. Refer to MUFFLER, EXHAUST, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
  8. Remove the rear driveshaft. Refer to SHAFT, DRIVE, REAR, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
  9. Support the transmission with a transmission jack.
  10. Remove the transfer case. Refer to REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION - MPT3015C or REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION - MPT3028C .

  11. Disconnect the Manual Park Release (MPR) cable end from the MPR lever.
  12. Remove the MPR cable bracket bolts and set the MPR cable and bracket aside.

  13. Remove the transmission dust cover bolt and dust cover.

    1 - Oil Pan to Transmission Bolts
    2 - Transmission to Oil Pan Bolts
  14. Remove the oil pan to transmission bolts.
  15. Remove the transmission to oil pan bolts.

    1 - Torque Converter Bolts
  16. Rotate the crankshaft in a clockwise direction for access through the dust cover pocket and remove the six torque converter bolts.

  17. Remove the starter bolts and position the starter aside.

    1 - Transmission Wire Harness Connector
  18. Turn the locking mechanism of the transmission wire harness connector counter-clockwise to release the lock and disconnect the transmission wire harness connector.

  19. Remove the transmission oil cooler lines from the transmission.

  20. Disconnect the transmission vent tube.
  21. Disconnect the Left O2 sensor wire harness connector(s).
  22. Remove the left O2 sensor bracket nut and remove the left O2 sensor bracket from the transmission.
  23. Disconnect the right O2 sensor wire harness connector.
  24. Remove the right O2 sensor bracket bolt and remove the right O2 sensor bracket from the transmission.

    2 - Upper Bellhousing to Engine Stud Bolts
  25. Remove the upper bellhousing to engine stud bolts.
  26. Remove the upper bellhousing to engine bolts.
  27. Hold the torque converter in place during transmission removal.
  28. Remove the transmission from the vehicle.

  29. If necessary, remove the extension housing bolts and remove the extension housing.

INSTALLATION 

Follow the removal procedure in reverse for general reassembly of the components on the vehicle. The steps listed below are calling out specific procedures that should be followed during installation.

During installation torque the following fasteners to specification:

Extension Housing to Transmission Bolts 27 N.m (20 Ft. Lbs.)  -
Bellhousing to Engine Bolts 53 N.m (39 Ft. Lbs.)  -
Torque Converter Bolt 42 N.m (31 Ft. Lbs.)  -
Transmission Dust Cover Bolt 9 N.m (80 In. Lbs.)  -
Starter Bolts 63 N.m (46 Ft. lbs)  -
Manual Park Release Cable Bracket Bolts 20 N.m (15 Ft. Lbs.)  -
Manual Park Release Cable Bracket Nut 20 N.m (15 Ft. Lbs.)  -
Front Driveshaft To Flange Bolts 56 N. m (41 Ft. Lbs.)  If removed, NEW  bolts must be installed and tightened to specifications.
Rear Driveshaft To Flange Bolts 56 N. m (41 Ft. Lbs.)  If removed, NEW  bolts must be installed and tightened to specifications.
Rear Driveshaft Center Support Bearing Bolts 55 N. m (41 Ft. Lbs.)  If removed, NEW  bolts must be installed and tightened to specifications.
CAUTION:

When supporting or lifting the transmission at the oil pan the weight of the transmission must be distributed evenly on the lifting fixture. Failure to do so could damage the oil pan and transmission.

NOTE:

If the transmission is being reconditioned (clutch/seal replacement) or replaced, it is necessary to perform the TRANSMISSION VERIFICATION TEST after installation
