Removal And Installation

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2019 RAM 3500 HD and 2019 RAM 2500 HD. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

REMOVAL 

NOTE:

If the Transmission Solenoid/Transmission Range Sensor (TRS) Assembly is being replaced, the Quick Learn Procedure must be performed. Refer to MODULE, TRANSMISSION CONTROL (TCM), MODULE PROGRAMMING .

  1. Remove the valve body from the transmission. Refer to VALVE BODY, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
  2. Remove the Torque Converter Clutch (TCC) solenoid. Refer to SOLENOID, TORQUE CONVERTER CLUTCH, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .

  3. Remove the nine fasteners (1) and remove the lower valve body (2).

  4. Beneath the lower valve body, remove the check ball (1).

  5. Remove the remaining seven bolts (1) holding the solenoid and pressure switch assembly to the valve body. Do not remove the screws on the top of the solenoid and pressure switch assembly.

  6. Separate the transmission solenoid/TRS assembly (1) from the valve body.

INSTALLATION 

  1. Place TRS selector plate in the PARK position.

  2. Position the transmission solenoid/TRS assembly (1) onto the valve body. Be sure that both alignment dowels are fully seated in the valve body and that the TRS switch contacts are properly positioned in the selector plate

  3. Install the seven fasteners (1) to the solenoid and pressure switch assembly and tighten to the proper specification. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .

  4. Place the check ball (1).

  5. Install the nine fasteners (1) of the lower valve body (2) onto the valve body. Tighten the bolts to the proper specification. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
  6. Install the TCC solenoid. Refer to SOLENOID, TORQUE CONVERTER CLUTCH, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
  7. Install the valve body into the transmission. Refer to VALVE BODY, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
