Heater, Transmission: Removal

WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.
  1. Drain the engine coolant. Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE .
  2. If equipped, remove the front propeller shaft. Refer to SHAFT, DRIVE, FRONT, INSTALLATION .
  3. Remove the rear propeller shaft. Refer to SHAFT, DRIVE, REAR, REMOVAL .

  4. Release the transmission cooler line routing clip (1) from the right front corner of the engine oil pan (2).

  5. Remove the speed nut (1) retaining the transmission cooler line bracket (2) at the bellhousing, near the engine oil dipstick tube (3).
  6. Release the transmission cooler lines from the routing clip at the transmission pan.

  7. Disconnect the transmission lines (1) from the heater using (special tool #9546, Disconnect Tool).
  8. Lower the stand supporting the transmission.

  9. If equipped, detach the transfer case vent hose routing clip (1) to the upper transmission cooler jumper line (2).

  10. Disconnect the transmission jumper line (1) at the lower port of the transmission using (special tool #9546, Disconnect Tool).

  11. Disconnect the coolant hoses (1, 2) from the heater.

    NOTE:

    The two upper transmission heater to case bolts will remain in the heater as there is insufficient clearance to fully remove them with the heater installed in the vehicle.

  12. Remove three bolts (1) from the transmission heater assembly (2).

  13. Using (special tool #9546, Disconnect Tool) disconnect the remaining transmission fluid jumper tube (1) at the heater (2) and remove the heater assembly from the vehicle.

  14. If necessary, remove the transmission fluid jumper tube (1) from the heater assembly (2) using (special tool #9546, Disconnect Tool).
