Installation - 2.0L, 2.2L, 2.4L

CAUTION:

Be certain to adjust the refrigerant oil level when servicing the A/C refrigerant system. Failure to properly adjust the refrigerant oil level will prevent the A/C system from operating as designed and can cause serious A/C compressor damage.

CAUTION:

The A/C liquid line must be replaced if an internal failure of the A/C compressor has occurred. Failure to replace the A/C liquid line can prevent the A/C system from operating as designed and can cause serious A/C compressor damage.

NOTE:

When replacing multiple A/C system components, refer to the Refrigerant Oil Capacities chart to determine how much oil should be added to the refrigerant system. Refer to OIL, REFRIGERANT, STANDARD PROCEDURE .

NOTE:

Replacement of the refrigerant line O-ring seals and gaskets is required anytime a refrigerant line is opened. Failure to replace the rubber O-ring seals and metal gaskets could result in a refrigerant system leak.

  1. Remove the tape or plugs from the refrigerant line fittings and the expansion valve ports.
  2. Lubricate the new seals with clean refrigerant oil and install the seals onto the liquid (1) and suction line (5) fittings. Use only the specified seals as they are made of special materials compatible to the system. Use only refrigerant oil of the type recommended for the A/C compressor in the vehicle.
  3. Position the A/C liquid (1) and suction line (5) assembly to the engine compartment.
  4. Attach the A/C liquid and suction line assembly to the A/C expansion valve, then install and tighten the nut (4) to the proper torque. Refer to TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS .

  5. Install the nut securing the liquid and suction line bracket (2) and tighten the nut to the proper torque. Refer to TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS .

  6. If removed, replace the O-ring seal, then install and securely tighten the pressure transducer.
  7. Connect the pressure transducer wire harness connector.

  8. Remove the tape or plugs from the refrigerant line fittings.
  9. Lubricate the new seals with clean refrigerant oil and install the seals on the suction line fitting. Use only the specified seals as they are made of special materials compatible with the refrigerant in the system. Use only refrigerant oil of the type recommended for the A/C compressor in the vehicle.
  10. Install the liquid and suction line bracket and tighten the nut (1) to the proper torque. Refer to TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS .
  11. Connect the lower suction line (4) to the upper suction line (2) assembly, then install and tighten the nut (3) to the proper torque. Refer to TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS .

  12. Install the front liquid line (1) support bracket, then install and tighten the nut to the proper torque. Refer to TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS .

  13. Remove the tape or plugs from the discharge and liquid line fitting and the condenser port.
  14. Lubricate the new seals (1) with clean refrigerant oil and install it on the discharge and liquid line fitting. Use only the specified O-ring as it is made of a special material for the system. Use only refrigerant oil of the type recommended for the A/C compressor in the vehicle.
  15. Attach the discharge line (2) to the liquid manifold (3).

  16. Install the A/C discharge (1) and liquid line manifold (2) to the A/C condenser, then install and tighten the nut to the proper torque. Refer to TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS .
  17. Connect the negative battery cable. If equipped with an Intelligent Battery Sensor (IBS), connect the IBS connector to the negative battery cable.
    CAUTION:

    Do NOT run the engine with a vacuum pump in operation or with a vacuum present within the A/C system. Failure to follow this caution will result in serious A/C compressor damage.

  18. Evacuate the refrigerant system Refer to PLUMBING, STANDARD PROCEDURE .
  19. Adjust the refrigerant oil level. Refer to OIL, REFRIGERANT, STANDARD PROCEDURE .
  20. Charge the A/C system. Refer to PLUMBING, STANDARD PROCEDURE .
  21. Install the air cleaner resonator. Refer to RESONATOR, AIR CLEANER, INSTALLATION .
  22. Install the air cleaner body. Refer to BODY, AIR CLEANER, INSTALLATION .
