Panel, Instrument: Installation

NOTE:

Installation of the dash will require the use of three people. One on each end and one in the middle.

  1. Verify that the six mounting bushings (1) are fully retracted and rotate freely.

  2. Place the instrument panel into the vehicle
  3. Line up the marks on the tape made during removal to aid installation.

    NOTE:

    Use a 9 mm deep well socket with a full cut to install the dash carrier hinge pillar fasteners. The carrier bolts design will not allow a partial cut socket to access.

  4. Place round bladed tools (3) or equivalent, into the lower dash mounting holes located in the hinge pillar on both sides of the vehicle.
  5. Start the upper fastener (1) on both sides of the vehicle.

  6. Have the center person push the dash forward to load the HVAC housing seal (1) against the vehicle steel dash panel. Continue to load the seal until the four dash carrier hinge pillar fasteners and dash carrier to lower plenum fastener has been installed and torqued to specifications.

  7. Verify that proper alignment is still being maintained. Adjust as necessary.
  8. Install the upper dash carrier to hinge pillar fasteners (1) and tighten to 27 N.m (20 ft lbs).
  9. Remove the alignment punch or equivalent, from both sides.
    NOTE:

    It will be necessary to wait at least five minutes and recheck the torque on the side support bolts.

  10. Install the lower dash carrier hinge pillar fasteners (1) and tighten to 27 N.m (20 ft lbs).

  11. Using a pocket ruler (4) or equivalent, verify that the side to side instrument panel measurements (3) are the same as during removal.
  12. If necessary, loosen the instrument panel side fasteners and repeat steps 6 through 10 until correct instrument panel positioning is maintained.
    NOTE:

    If the instrument panel position is incorrect it may interfere with proper door operation.

  13. Install the instrument panel to plenum fasteners (1) and tighten to 20 N.m (15 ft lbs).
  14. The center assistant may now stop loading the dash forward.
  15. Install the access plug covers into the dash carrier to hinge pillar fastener holes.
  16. Install the wiper linkage. Refer to LINKAGE, WIPER ARM, INSTALLATION .
  17. Install the cowl panel cover. Refer to COVER, COWL PANEL, INSTALLATION .
  18. Install the wiper arms. Refer to ARM, WIPER, INSTALLATION .

  19. From under the passenger side of the dash, connect the body to dash wiring harnesses (1).
  20. Connect the coaxial connectors (2), if equipped.
  21. Install the glove box. Refer to GLOVE BOX, INSTRUMENT PANEL, INSTALLATION .

  22. Insert the air conditioning drain tube onto the floor valve.
  23. With the use of pliers or equivalent, connect the air conditioning drain tube clamp (4).
  24. Fasten the ground wiring (3) to the floor, and tighten securely.
  25. Install the instrument panel to floor bracket fasteners (1) and tighten securely.

  26. Install the steering column (1). Refer to COLUMN, INSTALLATION .
  27. Install the steering column gap hider (3) fasteners (2), and tighten securely.
  28. Install the steering column opening closeout.
  29. Install the lower dash silencer panels. Refer to PANEL, SILENCER, LOWER, INSTALLATION .

  30. Connect the a-pillar wiring connectors (2) on both sides of the vehicle.
  31. Clip the wiring connectors (1) to the side of the dash panel (1).

  32. Install the a-pillar trim. Refer to PANEL, A-PILLAR TRIM, INSTALLATION .
  33. Install the defroster grill, and seat fully. Refer to GRILLE, DEFROSTER, INSTALLATION .

  34. Position the speaker covers (1) back into place and seat fully.

  35. Position the front door sill scuff panel (1).
  36. Hand tap to engage the retaining clips securing the front door sill scuff panel (1) to the door sill and lower B-pillar.

  37. Position the closeout trim panel (3) located between the A-pillar trim and the front scuff plate.
  38. Seat the retaining clips (1 and 2) fully.

  39. Install the end caps (1). Refer to CAP, INSTRUMENT PANEL END, INSTALLATION .

  40. Install the radio support bracket (1) and install the fasteners (2).

  41. Install the center bezel (2) and seat the clips (1) fully.
  42. Install the center bezel fasteners (3).

  43. Connect the HVAC control head electrical connectors and install the control head (2).
  44. Seat the four control head fastener clips (1) fully.

  45. Position the harness (1) back into place and seat the retainers fully.

  46. Position the storage bin (1) back into place onto the instrument panel top cover (2) and seat fully.

  47. Install the fasteners (2).
  48. Install center speaker cover (1) and seat fully.

  49. Install the HVAC floor ducts (1) and install the bracket (2). Refer to DUCT, FLOOR DISTRIBUTION, INSTALLATION .
  50. Install the transmission shifter. Refer to SHIFTER, FLOOR CONSOLE, INSTALLATION .
  51. Install the floor console. Refer to CONSOLE, FLOOR, INSTALLATION .

  52. Check the dash carrier hinge pillar fasteners and tighten to 27 N.m (20 ft lbs).
  53. Install the front doors (1). Refer to DOOR, INSTALLATION .

  54. Remove plugs, or tape that was placed over the open refrigerant lines (1) and (5) during removal.
  55. Connect the air conditioning refrigerant lines (1) and (5) to the HVAC housing.
  56. Install fastener (4) and tighten to 20 N.m (15 ft lbs).
  57. Remove the plugs, or tape that was placed over the open heater core tubes to prevent coolant during removal.
  58. Connect the heater core hoses (2) and (3) to the HVAC housing.
  59. Charge the air conditioning system. Refer to PLUMBING, STANDARD PROCEDURE .
  60. Fill the cooling system. Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE .
