Crankshaft Oil Seal - Front: Removal

  1. Disconnect negative battery cable.
  2. Remove cooling fan and fan drive viscous clutch assembly. Refer to RADIATOR - FAN - VISCOUS .
  3. Remove accessory drive belt (Refer to COOLING/ACCESSORY DRIVE/DRIVE BELTS - REMOVAL) .
  4. Remove cooling fan support (Refer to COOLING/ENGINE/RADIATOR FAN - REMOVAL) .
  5. Remove vibration damper/crankshaft pulley (Refer to ENGINE/ENGINE BLOCK/VIBRATION DAMPER - REMOVAL) .
  6. Remove outer timing belt cover (Refer to ENGINE/VALVE TIMING/TIMING BELT/CHAIN COVER(S) - REMOVAL) .
  7. Remove timing belt (Refer to ENGINE/VALVE TIMING/TIMING BELT/CHAIN AND SPROCKETS - REMOVAL) .
  8. Remove timing belt inner cover (Refer to ENGINE/VALVE TIMING/TIMING BELT/CHAIN COVER(S) - REMOVAL) .
    NOTE: Crankshaft hub retaining bolt has left hand thread.
  9. Remove crankshaft hub.
  10. Remove front engine cover. See Fig 1. (Refer to ENGINE/ENGINE BLOCK/ENGINE COVER - REMOVAL) .

    1 - CRANKSHAFT HUB RETAINING BOLT
    2 - FRONT COVER RETAINING BOLTS
    3 - FRONT COVER
    4 - ENGINE BLOCK
    5 - FRONT ENGINE COVER ALIGNMENT DOWEL
    6 - CRANKSHAFT HUB
  11. With cover on work bench, pry out old seal.
