Test 8A - Throttle Position Signal (DTC 15)

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE: Perform TEST 2A  before proceeding with this test. For connector terminal identification, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION  . For wiring diagram, see WIRING DIAGRAM  . Perform TEST 3A - VERIFICATION TEST  after each repair.
CAUTION: Always turn ignition switch to OFF position prior to disconnecting or connecting any module connector.
  1. Turn ignition off. Disconnect Transmission Control Module (TCM). Turn ignition on. Use scan tool in voltmeter mode. Measure voltage at terminal No. E4 on TCM connector. Fully depress and release accelerator pedal while monitoring voltage. If voltage does not change from .8 volts to 3.4 volts, go to step 3). If voltage does change from .8 to 3.4 volts, go to next step.
  2. Turn ignition off. Use scan tool in ohmmeter mode. Measure resistance at terminal No. F4 on TCM connector. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace TCM. If resistance is 5 ohms or greater, repair open sensor ground circuit.
  3. Disconnect Throttle Position (TP) sensor connector. Use scan tool in ohmmeter mode. Measure resistance at terminal No. 2 on TP sensor connector. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair TP sensor signal circuit for short to ground. If resistance is 5 ohms or greater, go to next step.
  4. Use external ohmmeter. Measure resistance between terminal No. 2 on TP sensor connector and terminal No. E4 on TCM connector. If resistance is 5 ohms or greater, repair open TP sensor signal circuit. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace TP sensor.
