Test 14A - Torque Converter Clutch Circuit (DTC 23)
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE:
Perform TEST 2A
before proceeding with this test. For connector terminal identification, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION
. For wiring diagram, see WIRING DIAGRAM
. Perform TEST 3A - VERIFICATION TEST
after each repair.
CAUTION:
Always turn ignition switch to OFF position prior to disconnecting or connecting any module connector.
- If DTC 22 is also present, go to TEST 17A . Turn ignition off. Disconnect Transmission Control Module (TCM). Turn ignition on. Use scan tool in voltmeter mode. Measure voltage at terminal E14 on TCM connector. If voltage is more than 1 volt, repair TCC shift solenoid circuit for short to battery voltage. If voltage is 1 volt or less, go to next step.
- Turn ignition off. Using scan tool in ohmmeter mode. Measure resistance at terminal No. E14 on TCM connector. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to step 5). If resistance is 5 ohms or more, go to next step.
- Use external ohmmeter. Measure resistance between terminals No. E14 and E16 on TCM connector. If resistance is 30-45 ohms, replace TCM. If resistance is not 30-45 ohms, go to next step.
- Disconnect transmission 8-pin connector. Use external ohmmeter. Measure resistance between terminal No. 7 of transmission 8-pin connector and terminal No. E14 of TCM connector. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace TCC solenoid. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open TCC solenoid circuit.
- Disconnect transmission 8-pin connector. Use scan tool in ohmmeter mode. Measure resistance at terminal No. 7 on transmission 8-pin connector. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair TCC solenoid control circuit for short to ground. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, replace TCC solenoid.
