Test 7A - Repairing Security Indicator Light Circuit
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE:
For connector terminal identification, see Figure
.
NOTE:
Perform TEST 1A
before proceeding.
- Turn ignition on. If security indicator light is constantly on, go to TEST 7B . If security light is not on constantly, turn ignition off and disconnect VTA module. See Figure in TEST 1A and see VEHICLE THEFT ALARM MODULE under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Inspect connector, clean and repair as needed. Turn ignition on. Connect jumper wire between VTA module connector terminal No. 15 (Black/Orange wire) and ground.
- If security light comes on, replace VTA module. Refer to VEHICLE THEFT ALARM MODULE under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Perform TEST VER-1A . If security light does not come on, disconnect Mechanical Instrument Cluster (MIC) connector. Remove instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT PANEL article in the ACCESSORIES/SAFETY EQUIPMENT section. Visually inspect condition of instrument cluster circuit board. Replace circuit board if damaged. Perform TEST VER-1A .
- If circuit board is okay, inspect security indicator light bulb. Replace bulb if open. Perform TEST VER-1A . If security indicator light bulb is okay, go to next step.
- With DRB in voltmeter mode, check voltage at MIC connector terminal No. 15 (Pink/Dark Blue wire). If voltage is less than 10 volts, repair open fused battery feed circuit (Pink/Dark Blue wire). Perform TEST VER-1A. If voltage is more than 10 volts, repair open security indicator light control circuit (Black/Orange wire). Perform TEST VER-1A .
