Pinpoint Test A: Heated Steering Wheel Switch/Temperature Test

  1. A1: HEATED STEERING WHEEL SWITCH OPERATION TEST 
    NOTE: The heated steering wheel will not operate if the engine is not running.
    1. Start the engine.

    Is the heated steering wheel switch available/illuminated? 

    Yes 

    GO to  A2

    No 

    GO to PINPOINT TEST B .

  2. A2: HEATED STEERING WHEEL SWITCH ILLUMINATION TEST 
    NOTE: The heated steering wheel will not operate if the engine is not running.
    1. The engine should still be running.
    2. Set the heated steering wheel switch to ON.

    Did the heated steering wheel switch illuminate amber? 

    Yes 

     Go to A3

    No 

    GO to PINPOINT TEST B .

  3. A3: HEATED STEERING WHEEL TEMPERATURE TEST 
    NOTE: An infrared thermometer is used during this test. The steering wheel temperature should have increased by approximately 10°C after 5 minutes. Do not measure the steering wheel temperature at the seam in the in the leather; this is where the heater element starts and finishes and will produce inaccurate test results.
    1. Set the heated steering wheel switch to OFF.
    2. Set the climate control to cool the vehicle interior for 5 minutes.
    3. Using an infrared thermometer, measure and record the temperature of the steering wheel rim at six equidistant points.

    4. Set the heated steering wheel switch to ON and allow 10 minutes to reach operating temperature.
    5. Using an infrared thermometer, monitor the temperature of the steering wheel rim at six equidistant points.

    Has the temperature increased at any point on the steering wheel rim? 

    Yes 

    GO to  A4

    No 

    GO to PINPOINT TEST C .

  4. A4: HEATED STEERING WHEEL STABILIZATION TEMPERATURE TEST 
    NOTE: An infrared thermometer is used during this test. The heated steering wheel temperature should stabilize at 30°C to 43°C.
    1. Using an infrared thermometer, monitor the temperature of the steering wheel rim at six equidistant points.

    2. Allow 10 minutes for the temperature to stabilize.

    Has the temperature stabilized within the specified range at any of the six points? 

    Yes 

    Heated steering wheel operating normally.

    No 

    GO to PINPOINT TEST J .
