Removal Procedure

- Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection .
- Disable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling .
- Remove the hush and knee bolster. Refer to Knee Bolster Replacement (Cadillac) or Knee Bolster Replacement (Except Cadillac) .
- Remove the steering column trim covers. Refer to Steering Column Trim Covers Replacement .
- Remove the theft deterrent control module. Refer to Theft Deterrent Module Replacement .
- Disconnect the passlock and key buzzer from the ignition lock cylinder case.
- Insert J 42759 into the ignition lock cylinder case to release the tabs on the ignition switch. See Special Tools .
- Pull the ignition switch out of the ignition lock cylinder case.
- Disconnect the electrical connector from the ignition switch.
