VSA System Symptom Troubleshooting Index

When the vehicle has one of these symptoms, check for VSA diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) with the HDS. If there are no DTCs, do the diagnostic procedure for the symptom, in the sequence listed, until you find the cause.

Symptom  Diagnostic procedure  Also check for 
HDS does not communicate with the VSA modulator-control unit or the vehicle Go to the DTC troubleshooting index . Power and ground at the VSA modulator-control unit.
ABS indicator, brake system indicator (red), VSA indicator, or VSA OFF indicator does not come on at start-up (bulb check) Do the gauge control module self-diagnostic function .  
VSA OFF indicator does not go off  
ABS indicator, brake system indicator (red), VSA indicator, and brake system indicator (amber) do not go off NOTE:  If any of the CAN communication failure DTC is indicated in other system, troubleshoot the DTC first.
  • Check for open wire or short wire in the F-CAN circuit;
    • -

      Between the gauge control module and the CAN gateway (F-CAN D_H, F-CAN D_L).

    • -

      Between the VSA modulator-control unit and the CAN gateway (F-CAN B_H, F-CAN B_L, F-CAN C_H, F-CAN C_L).

  • Check the VSA modulator-control unit power circuit.
    • -

      +B_ABS/VSA_FSR, IG1_VSA/ABS

  • Check the VSA modulator-control unit ground circuit (GND).
  • Do the gauge control module self-diagnostic function .
