DTC U1604 (101) (Battery Condition Monitor Module)
DTC U1604 : F-CAN Malfunction (Battery Condition Monitor Module - Traction Motor Control Module)
NOTE:
- Before you troubleshoot, review the general troubleshooting information .
- According to the detected DTC(s), check for the power circuit and the ground circuit of the control unit which cannot communicate with the battery condition monitor module.

DTC (Electric Powertrain)
- Problem verification
-1. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode.
-2. Clear the DTC with the HDS.
-3. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.
-4. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode.
-5. Check for Pending or Confirmed DTCs with the HDS.
DTC Description Confirmed DTC Pending DTC Freeze Frame U1604 F-CAN Malfunction (Battery Condition Monitor Module - Traction Motor Control Module) Is DTC U1604 indicated?
YES
Go to step 2.
NO
Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time. If the freeze data/on-board snapshot of this DTC is recorded, try to reproduce the failure under the same conditions with the freeze data/on-board snapshot.
- CAN gateway system DTC check
-1. Check for CAN gateway system DTCs with the HDS.
DTC Description DTC DTC (CAN GATEWAY)
Are any DTCs indicated?
YES
Go to the troubleshooting for CAN gateway system DTC(s) .
NO
Go to step 3.
- F-CAN circuit communication check (receiving control unit)
-1. Select the FUNCTION TEST in the CAN gateway with the HDS, then select the F-CAN Bus Connected Unit Check.
F-CAN Bus Connected Unit Check
Does the battery condition monitor module detect the CAN gateway Bus channel A?
Bus A is Detected
Go to step 5.
Bus A is Not Available
Go to step 4.
- Open wire check (F-CAN A_H line, F-CAN A_L line)
-1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.
-2. Remove the service plug and the IPU cover .
-3. Disconnect the following connectors.
Battery condition monitor module connector E (32P) CAN gateway 16P connector -4. Measure the resistance between test points 1 and 2.
Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode Battery condition monitor module connector E (32P): disconnected CAN gateway 16P connector: disconnected Test point 1 Battery condition monitor module connector E (32P) No. 9 Test point 2 CAN gateway 16P connector (female terminals) No. 3: Test point 1 Battery condition monitor module connector E (32P) No. 8 Test point 2 CAN gateway 16P connector (female terminals) No. 11: Is there 1.0 Ω or less?
YES
The F-CAN A_H wire and the F-CAN A_L wire are OK. Replace the battery condition monitor module .
NO
Repair an open in the F-CAN A_H wire or the F-CAN A_L wire between the battery condition monitor module and the CAN gateway.
- F-CAN circuit communication check (transmitting control unit)
-1. Select the FUNCTION TEST in the CAN gateway with the HDS, then select the F-CAN Bus Connected Unit Check.
F-CAN Connection Check
Does the PCU detect the CAN gateway Bus channel A?
Bus A is Detected
Intermittent failure. The system is OK at this time. Check for poor connections or loose terminals at the transmitting control unit and the CAN gateway.
Bus A is Not Available
Go to step 6.
- Open wire check (F-CAN A_H line, F-CAN A_L line)
-1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.
-2. Do the 12 volt battery terminal disconnection procedure .
-3. Disconnect the following connectors.
PCU 33P connector CAN gateway 16P connector -4. Measure the resistance between test points 1 and 2.
Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode PCU 33P connector: disconnected CAN gateway 16P connector: disconnected Test point 1 PCU 33P connector No. 5 Test point 2 CAN gateway 16P connector (female terminals) No. 3: Test point 1 PCU 33P connector No. 6 Test point 2 CAN gateway 16P connector (female terminals) No. 11: Is there 1.0 Ω or less?
YES
The F-CAN A_H wire and the F-CAN A_L wire are OK. Replace the PCU .
NO
Repair an open in the F-CAN A_H wire or the F-CAN A_L wire between the PCU and the CAN gateway.
