DTC P1440 (57)
DTC P1440 : Traction Motor Inverter Gate Line Open
WARNING:
This procedure includes high voltage measurements with the electric powertrain system turned on. To avoid serious injury from electrical shocks while testing the high voltage cable, use insulated gloves, select a DC range of 500 V or more on your digital multimeter, and be careful not to contact each tester probes and not to contact any metal parts while you measure the high voltage cable.
NOTE: Before you troubleshoot, review the general troubleshooting information .

DTC (Electric Powertrain)
- Problem verification
-1. Test-drive the vehicle in the range of the recorded freeze data parameters.
Freeze Data
-2. Monitor the OBD STATUS for DTC P1440 in the DTCs MENU with the HDS.
DTC Description OBD STATUS P1440 Traction Motor Inverter Gate Line Open Does the HDS indicate FAILED?
YES
Go to step 2.
NO
If the HDS indicates PASSED, the system is OK at this time but has an intermittent failure. If the HDS indicates NOT COMPLETED, keep test-driving until an indication comes on. If the freeze data/on-board snapshot of this DTC is recorded, try to reproduce the failure under the same conditions with the freeze data/on-board snapshot.
- Traction motor motor rotor position sensor circuit check
-1. Do the traction motor motor rotor position sensor circuit check .
Is it OK?
YES
Go to step 3.
NO
Repair an open or short in the traction motor motor rotor position sensor circuit between the PCU and the traction motor motor rotor position sensor.
- Traction motor check
-1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.
-2. Remove the service plug .
-3. Remove the PCU .
-4. At the traction motor 3-phase terminals side, measure the resistance between the following test points individually.
Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode PCU: removed NOTICE:
When measuring terminals, make sure to use an ohmmeter that is capable of measuring milli-ohm range. Make sure to take the measurement when the transmission temperature is about 68°F (20°C) (rated resistance value is at 68°F (20°C)) as the resistance figures may vary.
Connector Terminals Value (mΩ) Traction motor high voltage terminals U - V About 38.4-40.4 U - W About 38.4-40.4 Is resistance value OK?
YES
NO
Faulty traction motor. Replace the transmission (e-CVT) assembly .
