Electrical Compass Troubleshooting
NOTE:
- Check the vehicle 12 volt battery condition first .
- Check for B-CAN DTCs and resolve them before troubleshooting.
- Check the connectors for poor connections or loose terminals.
- Problem verification 1
-1. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode.
-2. Check if the azimuth (direction) information is displayed in the audio display.
Is the azimuth (direction) information displayed?
YES
Go to step 2.
NO
Go to step 6.
- Problem verification 2
-1. Check if the audio display is flashing the CAL and NW.
Are the CAL and NW flashing?
YES
Replace the electrical compass unit .
NO
Go to step 3.
- Problem verification 3
-1. Do the Electrical Compass Calibration .
Is the calibration completed?
YES
Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time.
NO
Go to step 4.
- Determine possible failure area (electrical compass unit, others)
-2. With the help of an assistant, test-drive the vehicle and watch the VSP signal.
Is the vehicle speed indicated?
YES
Replace the electrical compass unit .
NO
Go to step 5.
- Open wire check (B-CAN_H line, B-CAN_L line)
-1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.
-2. Disconnect the following connectors.
Audio unit connector A (24P) Gauge control module connector A (32P) -3. Measure the resistance between test points 1 and 2.
Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode Audio unit connector A (24P): disconnected Gauge control module connector A (32P): disconnected Test point 1 Audio unit connector A (24P) No. 14 Test point 2 Gauge control module connector A (32P) No. 30 Test point 1 Audio unit connector A (24P) No. 24 Test point 2 Gauge control module connector A (32P) No. 31 Is there 1.0 Ω or less?
YES
NO
Repair an open in the wire(s).
- Open wire check (IG1_METER line)
-1. Measure the voltage between test points 1 and 2.
Test condition Vehicle ON mode Test point 1 Electrical compass unit 6P connector No. 6 Test point 2 Body ground Is there battery voltage?
YES
The IG1_METER wire is OK. Go to step 7.
NO
Repair an open or high resistance in the wire.
- Open wire check (GND line)
-1. Measure the voltage between test points 1 and 2.
Test condition Vehicle ON mode Test point 1 Electrical compass unit 6P connector No. 5 Test point 2 Body ground Is there less than 0.2 V?
YES
The GND wire is OK. Go to step 8.
NO
Repair an open or high resistance in the ground wire or poor ground (G401).
- Shorted wire check (COMPASS lines)
-1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.
-2. Disconnect the following connectors.
Audio unit connector C (32P) Electrical compass unit 6P connector -3. Measure the resistance between these test points and body ground individually.
Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode Audio unit connector C (32P): disconnected Electrical compass unit 6P connector: disconnected Connector Terminal Electrical compass unit 6P connector No. 1 No. 2 No. 3 No. 4 Is there 1.0 MΩ or more?
YES
The COMPASS wires are not shorted to ground. Go to step 9.
NO
Repair a short to body ground in the wire(s).
- Open wire check (COMPASS lines)
-1. Measure the resistance between test points 1 and 2.
Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode Audio unit connector C (32P): disconnected Electrical compass unit 6P connector: disconnected Test point 1:Audio unit connector C (32P) Test point 2:Electrical compass unit 6P connector No. 12 No. 1 No. 11 No. 2 No. 4 No. 3 No. 3 No. 4 Is there 1.0 Ω or less?
YES
The COMPASS wires are OK. Go to step 10.
NO
Repair an open in the wire(s).
- Electrical compass unit check (substitution)
-1. Substitute a known-good electrical compass unit .
-2. Reconnect all the connectors, and recheck.
Does the symptom go away?
YES
Replace the original electrical compass unit .
NO
