Low Fuel Indicator

  1. Check fuse No. 25 (7.5-amp) in underdash fuse/relay box. If problem exists, replace fuse and retest system. If problem does not exist, go to next step.
  2. Park vehicle on level ground. Drain fuel into an approved container. Reinstall drain plug, using a NEW washer. Add less than 2.1 gallons (7.9 liters) of fuel to tank. Turn ignition on. Low fuel indicator light should come on within 4 minutes. If indicator light comes on, go to step  5 . If indicator light does not come on, go to next step.
  3. Fold left rear seat forward and remove base frame cover. Remove fuel tank access panel. Disconnect fuel pump 5-pin connector. Connect a jumper wire between fuel pump connector terminals No. 1 (Green/Yellow wire) and No. 2 (Black wire). See Figure . If indicator light comes on, check fuel gauge sending unit. See FUEL GAUGE SENDING UNIT TEST  . If indicator light does not come on, go to next step.
  4. Check for open in Green/Yellow wire between indicator light and fuel gauge assembly. Check for blown bulb, no power to fuel gauge or poor ground (G552). Repair as necessary.
  5. Add 1.1 gallon (4 liters) of fuel to tank. Low fuel indicator light should turn off within 4 minutes. If low fuel indicator light goes off, system is operating properly. If low fuel indicator light does not go off, check for short in Green/Yellow wire between fuel gauge sending unit and fuel gauge assembly. Check fuel gauge. See FUEL GAUGE TEST  . Repair as necessary.
