Removal Procedure

CAUTION:
If a turbocharger has failed, clean any turbocharger debris or excessive oil from the charge air cooler system before installing the new turbocharger. Failure to clean debris from the charge air cooler system will cause severe turbocharger and engine damage upon startup.
- Disconnect the battery negative cable. Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection (KL9)
- Remove Turbocharger Heat Shield -Turbocharger Heat Shield Replacement
- Disconnect Air Cleaner Outlet Duct@Turbocharger - Air Cleaner Outlet Duct Replacement
- Disconnect Air Cleaner Outlet Duct@Air Cleaner Assembly - Air Cleaner Outlet Duct Replacement
- Disconnect Positive Crankcase Ventilation Tube with Positive Crankcase Ventilation Valve - Foul Air@Turbocharger - Positive Crankcase Ventilation Tube Replacement (Fresh Air) Positive Crankcase Ventilation Tube Replacement (Foul Air)
- Remove Charge Air Cooler Inlet Hose - Charge Air Cooler Inlet Air Tube Replacement
- Remove Warm Up Three-Way Catalytic Converter - Warm Up Three-Way Catalytic Converter Replacement (LYX)
- Remove Turbocharger Oil Feed Pipe - Turbocharger Oil Feed Pipe Replacement
- Remove Turbocharger Coolant Return Pipe -Turbocharger Coolant Return Pipe Replacement (LYX)
- Remove Turbocharger Coolant Feed Pipe - Turbocharger Coolant Feed Pipe Replacement (LYX)
- Disconnect Electrical Connector (3)@Turbocharger Bypass Valve Solenoid (1)
- Disconnect the turbocharger wastegate regulator solenoid valve electrical connector (2).
- Raise the vehicle. Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle
- Remove the turbocharger oil return pipe bolts (1) and carefully separate the pipe (2).
- Remove Remove Turbocharger Oil Return Pipe Gasket (3) and DISCARD
- Lower the vehicle. Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle
- Remove Turbocharger Nut (1) and DISCARD[4x]
- Remove Turbocharger (2).
- Remove and DISCARD the turbocharger heat shield with gasket (1).
- Clean the exhaust manifold sealing surface at the cylinder head.
- Clean the 4 turbocharger studs at the cylinder head.
- Clean and inspect the turbocharger and transfer remaining components as needed. Turbocharger Cleaning and Inspection
NOTE:
The positive crankcase ventilation valve and tube assembly (2) are not reusable. If reinstalling the camshaft cover, do not remove the PCV valve and tube assembly (2) from the camshaft cover.
