Removal Procedure

Special Tools 

BO-38185  Hose Clamp Pliers

For equivalent regional tools, refer to Special Tools .

1. Drain the cooling system. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling (Static) Cooling System Draining and Filling (GE 47716) .
2. Remove the plenum front panel. Refer to Plenum Front Panel Replacement .
3. Remove the fuel pump cover. Refer to Fuel Pump Cover Replacement .
4. Remove Vacuum Pump. Vacuum Pump Replacement

5. Remove the engine harness ground fastener (1) and set aside the engine harness ground cables (2).
6. If equipped with RPO code LCV, remove the exhaust manifold heat shield. Refer to Exhaust Manifold Heat Shield Replacement (LTG) .
7. If equipped with RPO code LTG, remove the air cleaner outlet duct. Refer to Air Cleaner Outlet Duct Replacement (LTG) .
8. Remove the thermostat bypass pipe fasteners in order to remove the thermostat bypass pipe from the water pump. Discard the gasket

9. Remove the thermostat bypass hose (2) from the water outlet (3).

10. Disconnect the engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor connector (1).
11. Remove the radiator inlet hose (2) and the heater outlet hose (3), from the water outlet.

12. Remove the water outlet fasteners (1) and remove the water outlet (3).
13. Discard the water outlet seal (2).
