Removal Procedure

Special Tools

BO-38185 Hose Clamp Pliers

For equivalent regional tools, refer to Special Tools .

Drain the cooling system. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling (Static) Cooling System Draining and Filling (GE 47716) .
Remove the air cleaner assembly. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement (LCV) .
Remove the exhaust manifold heat shield. Refer to Exhaust Manifold Heat Shield Replacement (LCV) .

Remove the radiator outlet hose (1) from the engine coolant thermostat housing (2).

Remove the thermostat heater heat shield fastener (4) and remove the thermostat heater heat shield (3).
Disconnect the thermostat heater connector (1).

Remove the engine coolant thermostat housing fasteners (1) and remove the engine coolant thermostat housing (2).
Discard the engine coolant thermostat housing gasket (3).
Transfer the thermostat heater if replacing the thermostat housing with the thermostat.
