Diagnostic System Check

CAUTION: DO NOT replace Passlock™ module unless there are no VCM DTCs and a current Passlock™ module DTC exists after diagnostic system check and DTC tests have been completed. DO NOT replace Passlock™ module based on history DTCs.
NOTE: Passlock™ module may also be referred to as EVO/Passlock™ module.
  1. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. If SECURITY indicator light is not on, go to next step. If SECURITY indicator is on, see TEST 1: SECURITY INDICATOR LIGHT ALWAYS ON OR FLASHING  under SYMPTOM TESTS.
  2. Set parking brake. Reconnect any connectors or components previously disconnected. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Monitor SECURITY indicator light for 10 seconds. If SECURITY indicator light comes on, go to next step. If SECURITY indicator light does not come on, see TEST 2: SECURITY INDICATOR LIGHT INOPERATIVE  under SYMPTOM TESTS.
  3. If SECURITY indicator light turned on and remained on for more than 6 seconds, go to step  5. If SECURITY indicator did not turn on and remain on for more than 6 seconds, go to next step.
  4. If SECURITY indicator light flashes, go to next step. If SECURITY indicator light does not flash, go to step  7.
  5. Using scan tool, check for history and current Passlock™ DTCs. If scan tool does not communicate with vehicle, diagnose communication problem. See appropriate BODY CONTROL MODULES article. If scan tool communicates with vehicle, go to next step.
  6. If there are any current DTCs or a history B2958 DTC, see DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE INDEX  table. If there are no DTCs, see TEST 1: SECURITY INDICATOR LIGHT ALWAYS ON OR FLASHING  under SYMPTOM TESTS.
  7. Attempt to start vehicle. Using scan tool, monitor PASSLOCK™ CODE from Passlock™ data list. If scan tool does not read PASSLOCK™ CODE OPEN, go to next step. If scan tool reads PASSLOCK™ CODE OPEN, see DTC B2958: PASSLOCK™ SENSOR DATA CIRCUIT HIGH  under DIAGNOSTIC TESTS.
  8. If vehicle starts and runs, system is okay. If vehicle does not start and run, see appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTICS article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE.
