Test 1: Security Indicator Light Always On Or Flashing
- If the Passlock™ System Check was performed, go to the next step. If not, go to CONTENT THEFT DETERRENT SYSTEM OPERATION CHECK under TROUBLE SHOOTING.
- If the SECURITY telltale turns on with the ignition off, go to step 16. If the SECURITY telltale does not turn on with the ignition switch off, go to the next step.
- Turn the ignition switch to the LOCK position. Disconnect the Passlock™ module. See PASSLOCK™ MODULE under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position. This step will determine if the Passlock™ module or the harness is causing the SECURITY indicator to stay on. If the SECURITY indicator turns off, go to step 6. If the SECURITY indicator does not turn off, go to the next step.
- Disconnect the instrument cluster connector. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Using a DMM, measure the resistance (OL - infinite) from connector terminal B2 of the Passlock™ module to ground. See Figure. This step determines if there is a short to ground in CKT 749. If the resistance is within the specified value, go to step 18. If the resistance is not within the specified value, go to the next step.
- Repair the short to ground in circuit 749. If the repair is complete, go to CONTENT THEFT DETERRENT SYSTEM OPERATION CHECK under TROUBLE SHOOTING.
- Using a DMM, measure the resistance (0-5 ohms) from the connector terminal B4 of the Passlock™ module to connector terminal 2 of the data link connector (DLC). This step tests for an open in the class 2 line between Passlock™ terminal B4 and Splice S207. If the resistance is within the specified value, go to step 8. If the resistance is not within the specified value, go to the next step.
- Repair the open in circuit 1807 between Splice S207 and terminal B4 of the Passlock™ module. If the repair is complete, go to CONTENT THEFT DETERRENT SYSTEM OPERATION CHECK under TROUBLE SHOOTING.
- Test the SECURITY fuse. If the SECURITY fuse is open, go to the next step. If the SECURITY fuse is not open, go to 12.
- Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position. Reconnect the Passlock™ module. Replace the SECURITY fuse. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position. This step verifies if the SECURITY fuse randomly opened. If the SECURITY fuse is open, go to the next step. If the SECURITY fuse is not open, go to CONTENT THEFT DETERRENT SYSTEM OPERATION CHECK under TROUBLE SHOOTING.
- Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position. Reconnect the Passlock™ module. See PASSLOCK™ MODULE under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Using a DMM, measure the resistance (OL - infinite) from connector terminal B8 of the Passlock™ module to ground. This step tests for a short to ground in CKT 1740. If the resistance is within the specified value (OL - infinite), go to step 17. If the resistance is not within the specified value, go to the next step.
- Repair the short to ground in circuit 1740. Replace the SECURITY fuse. If the repair is complete, go to CONTENT THEFT DETERRENT SYSTEM OPERATION CHECK under TROUBLE SHOOTING.
- Using a DMM, measure the voltage (9-16 V) from connector terminal B3 of the Passlock™ module to ground. This step tests for ignition voltage at B3. If the voltage is within the specified value (9-16 V), go to step 14. If the voltage is not within the specified value, go to then next step.
- Repair the open in circuit 39 between S216 and connector terminal B3 of the Passlock™ module. If the repair is complete, go to CONTENT THEFT DETERRENT SYSTEM OPERATION CHECK under TROUBLE SHOOTING.
- Using a DMM, measure the voltage (9-16 V) from connector terminal B8 of the Passlock™ Module to ground. This step tests for battery input to the Passlock™ module. If the voltage is within the specified value, go to step 17. If the voltage is not within the specified value, go to the next step.
- Repair the open in circuit 1740. If the repair is complete, go to CONTENT THEFT DETERRENT SYSTEM OPERATION CHECK under TROUBLE SHOOTING.
- Repair the short to battery in circuit 749. If the repair is complete, go to the next step.
- Replace the Passlock™ module. See PASSLOCK™ MODULE under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If the repair is complete, go to step 19.
- Replace the instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repair, recheck system. See CONTENT THEFT DETERRENT SYSTEM OPERATION CHECK under TROUBLE SHOOTING.
- Reconnect all previously disconnected connectors and components. Ensure that the ignition switch is in the ON position. Replace any open fuses. Connect the scan tool. Clear the Passlock™ DTCs, if any. Perform one of the following Passlock™ Reprogramming procedures:
- Seed and Key (10 minutes). See SEED & KEY under PROGRAMMING.
- Auto Learn (30 minutes). See AUTO LEARN under PROGRAMMING.
If the repair is complete, go to CONTENT THEFT DETERRENT SYSTEM OPERATION CHECK under TROUBLE SHOOTING.
