Test 2: Security Indicator Light Inoperative
- Ensure ignition switch is in RUN position. Observe instrument cluster. If BRAKE warning telltale or CHECK GAUGES telltale are on, go to next step. If BRAKE warning telltale or CHECK GAUGES telltale are not on, go to step 6.
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect instrument cluster connector. Using a DVOM, check continuity of SECURITY indicator light bulb (instrument cluster connector terminals No. 22 and No. 26). See Fig 1. If bulb is open, replace bulb. If bulb is okay, go to next step.
- Using a DVOM, measure resistance in Yellow wire between Passlock™ module connector terminal B2 and instrument cluster connector terminal No. 26. See Figure and Fig 1
. If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to next step. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, repair open or poor connection in Yellow wire between Passlock™ module connector and instrument cluster connector terminal No. 26. See WIRING DIAGRAMS .
- Disconnect Passlock™ module connector. Using a DVOM, measure voltage between Passlock™ module connector terminal B2 and ground. See Figure. If voltage is not 9-16 volts, go to next step. If voltage is 9-16 volts, repair short to battery voltage in Yellow wire between Passlock™ module connector terminal B2 and instrument cluster terminal No. 26. See WIRING DIAGRAMS .
- Using a DVOM, measure resistance between Passlock™ module connector terminal B1 and ground. If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to step 6. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, repair open or poor connection in Black/White wire between Passlock™ module connector terminal B1 and ground connection G104. See WIRING DIAGRAMS .
- Test GAUGES fuse No. 4 (10-amp). If fuse is open, go to next step. If fuse is okay, go to step 9.
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Replace GAUGES fuse. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. If GAUGES fuse is open, go to next step. If GAUGES fuse is not open, check system operation. See DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect Passlock™ module connector. Replace GAUGES fuse. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. If GAUGES fuse is not open, go to step 12. If GAUGES fuse is open, repair short to ground in Pink wire between Passlock™ module connector terminal B3, instrument cluster connector terminal No. 22 and instrument panel fuse block. See WIRING DIAGRAMS .
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect instrument cluster connector. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Using a DVOM, measure voltage between instrument cluster connector terminal No. 22 and ground. See Fig 1. If voltage is 9-16 volts, go to step 11. If voltage is not 9-16 volts, repair open or poor connection in Pink wire between instrument cluster connector terminal No. 22 and instrument panel fuse block. See WIRING DIAGRAMS .
- Reinstall SECURITY indicator light bulb. Reconnect instrument cluster connector. Connect a fused jumper wire between Passlock™ connector terminal B2 and ground. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. If SECURITY indicator light does not come on, go to next step. If SECURITY indicator light does come on, go to step 12.
- Replace instrument cluster. See appropriate
INSTRUMENT PANELS article.
- Replace Passlock™ module. See PASSLOCK™ MODULE under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repairs, go to next step.
- Reconnect all previously disconnected connectors and components. Replace any open fuses. Ensure ignition switch is in ON position. Connect scan tool and clear any Passlock™ DTCs. Perform Passlock™ reprogramming. See PROGRAMMING .
