Pinpoint Test N: The CHMSL Camera Is Inoperative
- NOTE: Before disconnecting the parking aid camera, verify that the connector is properly seated and latched.
Refer to PARKING AID for schematic and connector information.
Normal Operation and Fault Conditions

DTC Fault Trigger Conditions
DTC Description Fault Trigger Condition IPMA B152E:08 Rear Camera 2: Bus Signal/Message Failures A continuous and on-demand DTC that sets in the IPMA when there is a LIN communication fault from the CHMSL camera. IPMA B152E:12 Rear Camera 2: Circuit Short To Battery A continuous and on-demand DTC that sets in the IPMA when there is a circuit shorted to battery on the CHMSL camera wiring. Possible Sources
- Fuse
- Wiring, terminals or connectors
- Communication network concern
- Camera
- TR input concern
- LIN concern
- IPMA
Visual Inspection and Pre-checks
- BJB fuse 25 (10A).
- If the CHMSL camera is not configured after replacement, some video functions will be inoperative. Verify the CHMSL camera configuration using the diagnostic scan tool.
- N1 CHECK AND CLEAN THE CAMERA LENS
- Clean and make sure the affected camera lens is clear of any debris.
- Ignition ON.
- Test the parking aid camera system and monitor the video images.
Is the concern still present?
Yes GO to N2 No The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by dirt or debris on the camera lens. - N2 CHECK FOR CORRECT GEAR INPUT AT THE IPC (INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER)
- While monitoring the IPC PRNDL indicator, briefly select each gear in the entire range.
Does the IPC PRNDL indicator match the actual gear selection?
Yes GO to N3 No DIAGNOSE the PRNDL indicator. REFER to: Instrumentation, Message Center and Warning Chimes . - N3 PERFORM A NETWORK TEST
- Using a diagnostic scan tool, perform a network test.
Do all modules pass the network test?
Yes GO to N4 No REFER to: ETHERNET MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK . See the Symptom Chart: Communication Network. - N4 CHECK FOR VOLTAGE AT THE CHMSL CAMERA
- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect CHMSL Camera C9125.
- Ignition ON.
- Measure:
Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead C9125-1 Ground
Is the voltage greater than 11 volts?
Yes GO to N5 No INSPECT BJB fuse 25 (10A). If the fuse is OK, repair the circuit for an open. If the fuse is not OK, REFER to the OEM WIRING DIAGRAMS to identify the possible causes of the short circuit. - N5 CHECK FOR GROUND AT THE CHMSL CAMERA
Is the voltage greater than 11 volts?
Yes GO to N7 No GO to N6 - N6 CHECK THE CHMSL CAMERA GROUND/SHIELD CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN
- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect IPMA C242C.
Is the resistance less than 3 ohms?
Yes GO to N15 No REPAIR the circuit. - N7 CHECK THE VIDEO SIGNAL CIRCUITS BETWEEN THE CHMSL CAMERA AND IPMA (IMAGE PROCESSING MODULE A) FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE
- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect IPMA C242C.
- Ignition ON.
Is any voltage present?
Yes REPAIR the circuit in question. No GO to N8 - N8 CHECK THE VIDEO SIGNAL CIRCUITS BETWEEN THE CHMSL CAMERA AND IPMA (IMAGE PROCESSING MODULE A) FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
- Ignition OFF.
Are the resistances greater than 10, 000 ohms?
Yes GO to N9 No REPAIR the circuit in question. - N9 CHECK THE VIDEO SIGNAL CIRCUITS BETWEEN THE CHMSL CAMERA AND IPMA (IMAGE PROCESSING MODULE A) FOR A SHORT TO THE VIDEO SHIELD
Are the resistances greater than 10, 000 ohms?
Yes GO to N10 No REPAIR the circuit in question. - N10 CHECK VIDEO SIGNAL CIRCUITS BETWEEN THE CHMSL CAMERA AND IPMA (IMAGE PROCESSING MODULE A) FOR AN OPEN
Are the resistances less than 3 ohms?
Yes GO to N11 No REPAIR the circuit in question. - N11 CHECK THE LIN (LOCAL INTERCONNECT NETWORK) CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE
- Disconnect IPMA C242B.
- Ignition ON.
- Measure:
Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead C9125-2 Ground
Is any voltage present?
Yes REPAIR the circuit. No GO to N12 - N12 CHECK THE LIN (LOCAL INTERCONNECT NETWORK) CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN
- Ignition OFF.
Is resistance less than 3 ohms '
Yes GO to N13 No REPAIR the circuit. - N13 CHECK THE LIN (LOCAL INTERCONNECT NETWORK) CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
- Measure:
Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead C9125-2 Ground
Is resistance greater than 10, 000 ohms?
Yes GO to N14 No REPAIR the circuit. - Measure:
- N14 CHECK FOR CORRECT CHMSL CAMERA OPERATION
- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect and inspect the CHMSL camera connector.
- Repair:
- corrosion (install new connector or terminals - clean module pins)
- damaged or bent pins - install new terminals/pins
- pushed-out pins - install new pins as necessary
- Reconnect the CHMSL camera connector. Make sure they seat and latch correctly.
- Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.
Is the concern still present?
Yes CHECK OASIS for any applicable service articles: TSB, GSB, SSM or FSA. If a service article exists for this concern, DISCONTINUE this test and FOLLOW the service article instructions. If no service articles address this concern, INSTALL a new CHMSL camera. REFER to: High Mounted Stoplamp . If the concern is still present after camera replacement, GO to N15 No The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. ADDRESS the root cause of any connector or pin issues. - N15 CHECK FOR CORRECT IPMA (IMAGE PROCESSING MODULE A) OPERATION
- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect and inspect the IPMA connectors.
- Repair:
- corrosion (install new connector or terminals - clean module pins)
- damaged or bent pins - install new terminals/pins
- pushed-out pins - install new pins as necessary
- Reconnect the IPMA connectors. Make sure they seat and latch correctly.
- Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.
Is the concern still present?
Yes CHECK OASIS for any applicable service articles: TSB, GSB, SSM or FSA. If a service article exists for this concern, DISCONTINUE this test and FOLLOW the service article instructions. If no service articles address this concern, INSTALL a new IPMA. REFER to: Image Processing Module A (IPMA) . No The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. ADDRESS the root cause of any connector or pin issues.
