Pinpoint Test Y: DTC (Diagnostic Trouble Code) B15EC:14, DTC (Diagnostic Trouble Code) B15EC:15

  1. Refer to VEHICLE EMERGENCY MESSAGING SYSTEM for schematic and connector information.

    Normal Operation and Fault Conditions 

    REFER to: Blind Spot Information System - System Operation and Component Description .

    DTC Fault Trigger Conditions 

    DTC Description Fault Trigger Condition
    IPMA B15EC:14 Side Obstacle Detector "A": Circuit Short To Ground Or Open An continuous memory DTC that sets in the IPMA if an excessive current draw is detected on the SODL output circuit.
    IPMA B15EC:15 Side Obstacle Detector "A": Circuit Short To Battery Or Open An continuous memory DTC that sets in the IPMA when an open circuit is detected on the SODL output circuit.

    Possible Sources 

    • Wiring, terminals or connectors
    • SODL
    • IPMA

  2. NOTE: Use the correct probe adapter(s) when making measurements. Failure to use the correct probe adapter(s) may cause damage to the connector. Use only Rotunda Flex Probes (NUD105-R025D)
  3. Y1 CHECK THE IPMA (IMAGE PROCESSING MODULE A) DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTCS)

    • Ignition ON.

    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, perform the IPMA self-test.

    Is DTC B15EC:14 or DTC B15EC:15 present? 

    Yes  For DTC B15EC:14, GO to  Y2 For DTC B15EC:15, GO to  Y5
    No  The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by module connections. ADDRESS the root cause of any connector or pin issues.
  4. Y2 CHECK FOR SHORT TO GROUND WITH THE SODL (SIDE OBSTACLE DETECTION CONTROL MODULE LH) DISCONNECTED

    • Ignition OFF.

    • For Incandescent rear lamps.

    • Disconnect: SODL C412B.

    • For LED rear lamps.

    • Disconnect: SODL C4483.

    • Ignition ON.

    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, clear the IPMA Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs).

    • NOTE: DTC B15EC:15 may be present during this step and can be disregarded at this time.

      Perform the IPMA self-test.

    Is DTC B15EC:14 present? 

    Yes  INSTALL a new SODL. REFER to: Side Obstacle Detection Control Module .
    No  GO to  Y3
  5. Y3 CHECK THE IPMA (IMAGE PROCESSING MODULE A) OUTPUT CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND

    • Ignition OFF.

    • Disconnect: IPMA C242B.

    • For Incandescent rear lamps, measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

      Ground

    • For LED rear lamps, measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

      Ground

    Is the resistance greater than 10, 000 ohms? 

    Yes  GO to  Y4
    No  REPAIR the circuit. After the repair, CLEAR the DTC, CYCLE the ignition, and RUN the IPMA on-demand self-test to re-enable the circuit.
  6. Y4 CHECK IPMA (IMAGE PROCESSING MODULE A) CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TOGETHER

    • For Incandescent rear lamps, measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

    • For LED rear lamps, measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

    Is the resistance greater than 10, 000 ohms? 

    Yes  GO to  Y7
    No  REPAIR the circuits.
  7. Y5 CHECK FOR DTC (DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE) B15EC:15 WITH THE SODL (SIDE OBSTACLE DETECTION CONTROL MODULE LH) CIRCUITS JUMPERED TOGETHER

    • Ignition OFF.

    • For Incandescent rear lamps.

    • Disconnect: SODL C412B.

    • For LED rear lamps.

    • Disconnect: SODL C4483.

    • For Incandescent rear lamps, Connect:
      Lead 1 Measurement / Action Lead 2

    • For LED rear lamps, Connect:
      Lead 1 Measurement / Action Lead 2

    • Ignition ON.

    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, clear the IPMA Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs).

    • Perform the IPMA self-test.

    Is DTC B15EC:14 present? 

    Yes  REMOVE the fused jumper wire. INSTALL a new SODL. REFER to: Side Obstacle Detection Control Module .
    No  REMOVE the fused jumper wire. GO to  Y6
  8. Y6 CHECK THE IPMA (IMAGE PROCESSING MODULE A) SODL (SIDE OBSTACLE DETECTION CONTROL MODULE LH) CIRCUITS FOR AN OPEN

    • Ignition OFF.

    • Disconnect: IPMA C242B.

    • For Incandescent rear lamps, measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

    • For LED rear lamps, measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

    Are the resistances less than 3 ohms? 

    Yes  GO to  Y7
    No  REPAIR the affected circuit.
  9. Y7 CHECK FOR CORRECT IPMA (IMAGE PROCESSING MODULE A) OPERATION

    • Disconnect and inspect IPMA connector.

    • Repair:

      • corrosion (install new connector or terminals - clean module pins)
      • damaged or bent pins - install new terminals/pins
      • pushed-out pins - install new pins as necessary

    • Reconnect the IPMA connector. Make sure it seats and latches correctly.

    • Operate the system to determine if the concern is still present.

    Is the concern still present? 

    Yes  CHECK OASIS for any applicable service articles: TSB, GSB, SSM or FSA. If a service article exists for this concern, DISCONTINUE this test and FOLLOW the service article instructions. If no service articles address this concern, INSTALL a new IPMA REFER to: Image Processing Module A (IPMA) .
    No  The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by module connections. ADDRESS the root cause of any connector or pin issues.
