Pinpoint Test A: Lubricant Leaking From The Hub Oil Seals

  1. Normal Operation and Fault Conditions 

    REFER to: Wheel Hubs and Bearings - Overview .

    Possible Sources 

    • Plugged vent
    • Worn or damaged hub seal

  2. A1 INSPECT THE AXLE HOUSING VENT PLUG FOR LEAKAGE

    • Inspect the axle housing vent plug.

    Was any leakage found? 

    Yes  CLEAN the axle housing vent.
    No  GO to  A2
  3. A2 CHECK THE REAR WHEEL HUB SEAL FOR DAMAGE OR WEAR

    • Inspect the rear wheel hub seal.

    Was any damage found? 

    Yes  INSTALL new hub seal if necessary. REFER to: Axle Shaft .
    No  Check the lubricant level. Fill the axle to the specification. REFER to: Differential Fluid Level Check .
