Normal Operation and Fault Conditions
The TCM monitors the supplied voltage and sets a DTC if the voltage rises above or falls below threshold.
DTC Fault Trigger Conditions
DTC Description Fault Trigger Condition TCM P068A:00 ECM/PCM Power Relay De-Energized - Too Early: No Sub Type Information This DTC indicates power was removed from the TCM before it properly shut down. TCM P0702:00 Transmission Control System Electrical: No Sub Type Information This DTC indicates the TCM detected a supply voltage either above or below threshold. TCM P0882:00 TCM Power Input Signal Low: No Sub Type Information This DTC indicates the TCM detected a supply voltage of less than 9 volts. TCM P0883:00 TCM Power Input Signal High: No Sub Type Information This DTC indicates the TCM detected a supply voltage of greater than 21 volts. TCM P0884:00 TCM Power Input Signal Intermittent: No Sub Type Information This DTC indicates the TCM was unable to store fault data due to an unexpected loss of power. TCM P1397:00 System Voltage Out Of Self Test Range: No Sub Type Information This DTC indicates the TCM detected a voltage supply outside the allowed self-test range of 11 to 18 volts during a KOEO or a KOER self-test. Possible Sources
- Charging system concern
- Connectors damaged or pushed-out terminals, corrosion, loose wires or ground and missing or damaged seals
- BJB fuses F83 (15A) and F16 (10A)
- TCM
- K1 CHECK FOR CHARGING SYSTEM DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTCS) IN THE PCM (POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE)
- Using a diagnostic scan tool, retrieve all CMDTCs from the PCM.
Are any charging system Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) present in the PCM?
Yes DIAGNOSE the charging system concern. REFER to: Charging System - 2.7L EcoBoost (238kW/324PS)/3.5L EcoBoost (272kW/370PS) . No GO to K2 - K2 CHECK THE BATTERY CONDITION AND STATE OF CHARGE
- Carry out the Battery Condition Test. REFER to: Battery .
Did the battery pass the condition test?
Yes GO to K3 No INSTALL a new battery. REFER to: Battery . - K3 CHECK THE CHARGING VOLTAGE
- Using a diagnostic scan tool, clear all diagnostic trouble codes.
- Turn off all interior lights, exterior lights and accessories.

NOTE: Do not allow the engine speed to increase above 2, 000 RPM while carrying out this step or the generator may self-excite and result in default charging system output voltage. If engine speed goes above 2, 000 RPM, turn the engine off and restart the engine before carrying out this step.
Start and run the engine at approximately 1, 500 RPM for 3 minutes while monitoring the battery voltage.
Does the battery voltage stay between 13 and 15.2 volts?
Yes GO to K4 No DIAGNOSE the charging system concern. REFER to: Charging System - 2.7L EcoBoost (238kW/324PS)/3.5L EcoBoost (272kW/370PS) . - K4 RECHECK THE TCM (TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE) DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTCS)
- Using a diagnostic scan tool, carry out the TCM self-test.
Did the DTC return?
Yes GO to K5 No The system is operating correctly at this time. The DTC may have set due to a previous low battery voltage condition. - K5 CHECK THE TCM (TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE) VBATT CIRCUIT FOR VOLTAGE
- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect TCM C1822.
- Measure:
Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead C1822-48 Ground
Is the voltage within 1 volt of the recorded battery voltage?
Yes GO to K6 No VERIFY BJB fuse 83 (15A) is OK. If OK, REFER to the OEM ELECTRICAL WIRING DIAGRAM INTRODUCTION to identify and repair the open circuit. If not OK, REFER to the OEM ELECTRICAL WIRING DIAGRAM INTRODUCTION to identify and repair the short circuit. - K6 CHECK THE TCM (TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE) VPWR CIRCUIT FOR VOLTAGE
- Ignition ON.
- Measure:
Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead C1822-31 Ground
Is the voltage within 1 volt of the recorded battery voltage?
Yes GO to K7 No VERIFY BJB fuse 16 (10A) is OK. If OK, REFER to the OEM ELECTRICAL WIRING DIAGRAM INTRODUCTION to identify and repair the open circuit. If not OK, REFER to the OEM ELECTRICAL WIRING DIAGRAM INTRODUCTION to identify and repair the short circuit. - K7 CHECK THE TCM (TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE) GROUND CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN
- Ignition OFF.
- Measure:
Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead C1822-50 Ground
Is the resistance less than 3 ohms?
Yes GO to K8 No VERIFY ground G306 is clean and properly fastened. If OK, REPAIR the circuit. - K8 VERIFY ALL WIRING CONNECTIONS
- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect and inspect TCM C1822 and all related in-line electrical connectors.
- Using a good light source, inspect all
disconnected electrical connectors for the following:
- corrosion - install new connector or terminal and clean the module pins
- damaged or bent pins - install new terminals or pins
- pushed-out pins - install new pins as necessary
- spread terminals - install new terminals as necessary
- Reconnect TCM C1822 and all related in-line electrical connectors. Make sure they seat and latch correctly.
- Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.
Is the concern still present?
Yes CHECK OASIS for any applicable service articles: TSB, GSB (general service bulletin), SSM (special service message) or FSA (Field Service Action). If a service article exists for this concern, DISCONTINUE this test and FOLLOW the service article instructions. If no service articles address this concern, INSTALL a new TCM. REFER to: Transmission Control Module (TCM) . CARRY OUT the transmission strategy download. REFER to: Transmission Strategy Download . No The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. ADDRESS the root cause of any connector or pin issues.
