Pinpoint Test J : DTC P2531

  1. Transmission Controls - TorqShift 6 for schematic and connector information.

    Normal Operation and Fault Conditions 

    DTC P2531 (Ignition Switch Run Position Circuit Low) -- sets in the TCM in continuous memory if the TCM has detected a voltage level above or below the accepted voltage range.

    DTC Fault Trigger Conditions 

    DTC Description Fault Trigger Condition
    TCM P2531:00 Ignition Switch Run Position Circuit Low: No Sub Type Information This DTC sets in the TCM continuous memory if the TCM has detected a voltage level above or below the accepted voltage range.

    Possible Sources 

    • Ignition run circuit open to the TCM
    • TCM

  2. J1 CHECK FOR IGNITION VOLTAGE TO THE TCM

    • Disconnect TCM C1750.

    • Ignition ON.

    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead
      Refer to C1750-31

      Ground

    Is the voltage 11 volts or greater? 

    Yes  GO to  J2
    No  CHECK fuse F33 (10A), if it is OK, REPAIR the open circuit. If not OK, REFER to the wiring diagrams article(s) to diagnose the short circuit. If the fuse is OK, REFER to OEM Electrical Wiring Diagram Introduction to identify and repair the open circuit. If the fuse is not OK, REFER to OEM Electrical Wiring Diagram Introduction to identify and repair the short to ground.
  3. J2 CHECK FOR CORRECT TCM OPERATION

    • Check for:

      • corrosion (install new connector or terminals - clean module pins)
      • damaged or bent pins - install new terminals/pins
      • pushed-out pins - install new pins as necessary

    • Connect the TCM connector and make sure it seats and latches correctly.

    • Connect the TCM connector and make sure it seats correctly.

    Is the concern still present? 

    Yes  CHECK OASIS for any applicable Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs). If a TSB exists for this concern, DISCONTINUE this test and FOLLOW TSB instructions. If no Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs) address this concern, INSTALL a new TCM. REFER to: Transmission Control Module (TCM) . After installing the new TCM PROGRAM it with the latest calibration and PERFORM the Solenoid Body Strategy Data Download. REFER to: Transmission Strategy Download .
    No  The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector.
