Fuel Tank - Vehicles With: Midship Fuel Tank: Removal

NOTE: Removal steps in this procedure may contain installation details.
  1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. Refer to: Jacking and Lifting - Overview .
  2. Release the fuel system pressure. Refer to: Fuel System Pressure Release .
  3. Disconnect the battery ground cable. Refer to: Battery Disconnect and Connect .
  4. Drain the fuel tank. Refer to: Fuel Tank Draining .
  5. NOTE: Typical application shown.

    Loosen the hose clamp and disconnect the fuel tank filler pipe from the fuel tank.

    Torque: 44 lb.in (5 Nm)

  6. Disconnect the 2 fuel line quick release couplings. Refer to: QUICK RELEASE COUPLING

  7. Disconnect the EVAP canister quick release couplings. Refer to: QUICK RELEASE COUPLING

  8. NOTE: Do not apply open flame to the fuel tank strap bolts, use a magnetic induction tool to heat the fuel tank strap bolts.
    NOTE: Use an Induction Innovations MD-700 Mini-Ductor II Magnetic Induction Heater Kit or equivalent.
    NOTE: Adhesive is applied to threads on fuel tank strap bolts during manufacture.

    Using a magnetic induction tool, apply heat for 20 seconds to each the fuel tank strap bolt to soften the adhesive, following the tool manufacturer's instructions.

    NOTE: New bolts must be installed.

    Using a suitable lifting and lowering tool, support the fuel tank. Heat the fuel tank strap bolts one at a time using a magnetic induction tool. Remove and discard the fuel tank strap bolts using hand tools. Partially lower the fuel tank for access.

    Torque: 30 lb.ft (40 Nm)

    Detach the wire from the routing retainer and disconnect the electrical connectors.

    Disconnect the fuel tank filler pipe vent tube quick release coupling. Remove the fuel tank. Refer to: QUICK RELEASE COUPLING
