Battery Disconnect and Connect

Disconnect

NOTE: If the vehicle is equipped with a secondary battery, both negative cables must be disconnected from the batteries to interrupt the vehicles electrical system power. Failure to disconnect both of the negative battery cables may cause vehicle damage.

NOTE: When disconnecting the battery ground cable to interrupt power to the vehicle electrical system, disconnect the battery ground cable/cables only. It is not necessary to disconnect the positive battery cable(s).

NOTE: When the battery is disconnected and connected, some abnormal drive symptoms may occur while the vehicle relearns its adaptive strategy. The vehicle may need to be driven to allow the PCM to relearn the adaptive strategy values.

Primary battery

1. Loosen the nut and position the negative battery cable.
  Torque: 80 lb.in (9 Nm)
2. Position the positive battery cable terminal cover.
3. Loosen the nut and position the positive battery cable.
  Torque: 80 lb.in (9 Nm)

Secondary battery
1. Loosen the nut and position the negative battery cable.
  Torque: 80 lb.in (9 Nm)
2. Position the positive battery cable terminal cover.
3. Loosen the nut and position the positive battery cable.
  Torque: 80 lb.in (9 Nm)

Connect

To connect, reverse the disconnect procedure.
