Pinpoint Test A : The Lane Keeping System Does Not Turn On Or Activate

  1. A1 VERIFY THE CONCERN

    • Verify the operation of the lane keeping alert.

    Does the lane keeping alert operate correctly? 

    Yes  The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by high network traffic or the driver's perception of how the lane keeping systems operate. REFER to the Owner's Literature.
    No  GO to  A2
  2. A2 INSPECT THE INTERIOR REAR VIEW MIRROR, IPMA (IMAGE PROCESSING MODULE A) CAMERA AND WINDSHIELD FOR DAMAGE OR OBSTRUCTIONS

    • Inspect the interior rear view mirror, IPMA camera and the windshield in front of the camera for damage, dirt, debris or other obstructions.

    Is the interior rear view mirror, IPMA camera and windshield free of damage and obstructions? 

    Yes  GO to  A3
    No  CLEAN or INSTALL new components as necessary.
  3. A3 PERFORM A NETWORK TEST

    • Ignition ON.

    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, perform a network test.

    Do all modules pass the network test? 

    Yes  GO to  A4
    No  See the Symptom Chart: Communication Network. REFER to: Communications Network .
  4. A4 CHECK THE IPMA (IMAGE PROCESSING MODULE A) DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTCS)

    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, perform the IPMA self-test.

    Are any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) present? 

    Yes  For DTC B13A6:14, GO to  A15 For all IPMA Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) other than B13A6:14, REFER to IPMA DTC Chart  .
    No  GO to  A5
  5. A5 CHECK THE SECM (STEERING EFFORT CONTROL MODULE) DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTCS)

    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, perform the SECM self-test.

    Are any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) present? 

    Yes  DIAGNOSE the SECM Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs). REFER to: Power Steering .
    No  GO to  A6
  6. A6 CHECK THE SASM (STEERING ANGLE SENSOR MODULE) DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTCS)

    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, perform the SASM self-test.

    Are any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) present? 

    Yes  DIAGNOSE the SASM Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs). REFER to: Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) and Stability Control .
    No  GO to  A7
  7. A7 CHECK THE SCCM (STEERING COLUMN CONTROL MODULE) DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTCS)

    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, perform the SCCM self-test.

    Are any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) present? 

    Yes  DIAGNOSE the SCCM Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs). REFER to: Steering Wheel and Column Electrical Components .
    No  GO to  A8
  8. A8 CHECK THE BCM (BODY CONTROL MODULE) DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTCS)

    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, perform the BCM self-test.

    Are any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) present? 

    Yes  DIAGNOSE the BCM Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs). REFER to: Body Control Module (BCM) .
    No  GO to  A9
  9. A9 CHECK THE CCM (CRUISE CONTROL MODULE) DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTCS)

    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, perform the CCM self-test.

    Are any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) present? 

    Yes  DIAGNOSE the CCM Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs). REFER to: Cruise Control .
    No  GO to  A10
  10. A10 CHECK THE IPC (INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER) DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTCS)

    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, perform the IPC self-test.

    Are any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) present? 

    Yes  DIAGNOSE the IPC Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs). REFER to: Information Center - Instrumentation, Message Center And Warning Chimes .
    No  GO to  A11
  11. A11 CHECK THE RCM (RESTRAINTS CONTROL MODULE) DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTCS)

    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, perform the RCM self-test.

    Are any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) present? 

    Yes  DIAGNOSE the RCM Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs). REFER to: Airbag Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) .
    No  GO to  A12
  12. A12 CHECK THE TRM (TRAILER MODULE) DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTCS)

    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, perform the TRM self-test.

    Are any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) present? 

    Yes  DIAGNOSE the TRM Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs). REFER to: Trailer Lamps .
    No  GO to  A13
  13. A13 CHECK THE PCM (POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE) DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTCS)

    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, perform the PCM KOEO self-test.

    Are any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) present? 

    Yes  DIAGNOSE the PCM Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs). See Electronic Engine Control, PCM DTC Chart. Refer to the appropriate information in Engine System for the procedure.
    No  GO to  A14
  14. A14 VERIFY THE IPMA (IMAGE PROCESSING MODULE A) LANE KEEPING SYSTEM SWITCH PID (PARAMETER IDENTIFICATION)

    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, view the IPMA lane keeping system switch PID (LKS_SW_ST).

    • While monitoring the PID, press and release the lane keeping system switch several times.

    Does the PID consistently match the switch position? 

    Yes  GO to  A19
    No  GO to  A15
  15. A15 CHECK THE LANE KEEPING SYSTEM SWITCH CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND

    • Ignition OFF.

    • Disconnect Lane Keeping System Switch C3513.

    • Disconnect Interior Rear View Mirror C9012.

    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

      Ground

    Is the resistance greater than 10, 000 ohms? 

    Yes  GO to  A16
    No  REPAIR the circuit.
  16. A16 CHECK THE LANE KEEPING SYSTEM SWITCH CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN

    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

    Is the resistance less than 3 ohms? 

    Yes  GO to  A17
    No  REPAIR the circuit.
  17. A17 CHECK THE LANE KEEPING SYSTEM SWITCH GROUND CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN

    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

      Ground

    Is the resistance less than 3 ohms? 

    Yes  GO to  A18
    No  REPAIR the circuit.
  18. A18 CHECK THE LANE KEEPING SYSTEM SWITCH OPERATION

    • Connect Lane Keeping System Switch C3513.

    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

      Ground

    Is the resistance less than 3 ohms with the switch pressed and greater than 10, 000 ohms with the switch released? 

    Yes  GO to  A19
    No  INSTALL a new lane keeping system switch. REFER to: Parking Aid Switch .
  19. A19 CHECK FOR CORRECT IPMA (IMAGE PROCESSING MODULE A) OPERATION

    • Ignition OFF.

    • Disconnect and inspect all IPMA connectors and related in-line connectors.

    • Repair:

      • corrosion (install new connector or terminals - clean module pins)
      • damaged or bent pins - install new terminals/pins
      • pushed-out pins - install new pins as necessary

    • Reconnect the IPMA connectors and related in-line connectors. Make sure they seat and latch correctly.

    • Operate the system to determine if the concern is still present.

    Is the concern still present? 

    Yes  CHECK OASIS for any applicable Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs). If a TSB exists for this concern, DISCONTINUE this test and FOLLOW the TSB instructions. If no Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs) address this concern, INSTALL a new IPMA (integral to the interior rear view mirror). REFER to: Interior Rear View Mirror .
    No  The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by module connections. ADDRESS the root cause of any connector or pin issues.
