Normal Operation and Fault Conditions
DTC Fault Trigger Conditions
DTC Description Fault Trigger Condition BCM B153F:01 Power Distribution Box: General Electrical Failure This DTC sets when the BCM detects a circuit fault on the LIN to the BJB. BCM B153F:08 Power Distribution Box: Bus Signal/Message Failures This DTC sets when there is a loss of communication between the BCM and the BJB. BCM B153F:49 Power Distribution Box: Internal Electronic Failure This DTC sets when the BJB has reported an internal electronic failure. BCM B153F:9A Power Distribution Box: Component or System Operating Conditions This DTC sets when the BJB outputs have been disabled due to environmental reasons. Possible Sources
- Fuse
- Wiring, terminals or connectors
- Rear window defrost grid
- BCM
- BJB
- HVAC module
Visual Inspection and Pre-checks
- Verify BJB fuse 90 (25A) is OK.
- Inspect the rear window defrost grid and electrical connectors for damage.
- H1 CHECK FOR BCM (BODY CONTROL MODULE) DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTCS)
- Ignition ON.
- Using a diagnostic scan tool, perform BCM self-test.
Are any BCM Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) present?
Yes For DTC B153F:01 or B153F:08, GO to H7 For DTC B153F:49, GO to H11 For DTC B153F:9A, GO to H12 For all other Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs), REFER to DTC Chart: BCM . No GO to H2 - H2 CHECK THE REAR WINDOW DEFROST GRID VOLTAGE
- Ignition OFF.
- If equipped with liftgate, disconnect: Rear Window Defrost Grid C402A.
- If equipped with cargo doors, disconnect: Rear Window Defrost Grid C4425A (LH) and C4426A (RH).
- Start the engine.
- Activate the rear window defrost switch.
- If equipped with liftgate, measure:
Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead C402A-1 Ground
- If equipped with cargo doors, measure:
Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead C4425A-1 Ground Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead C4426A-1 Ground
Is the voltage greater than 11 volts?
Yes GO to H3 No If equipped with liftgate, GO to H4If equipped with cargo doors and both voltage measurements failed, GO to H4
If equipped with cargo doors and only one voltage measurement failed, REPAIR the circuit in question. - H3 CHECK THE REAR WINDOW DEFROST GRID GROUND
- Ignition OFF.
- If equipped with liftgate, disconnect: Rear Window Defrost Grid C402B.
- If equipped with cargo doors, disconnect: Rear Window Defrost Grid C4425B (LH) and C4426B (RH).
- If equipped with liftgate, measure:
Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead C402B-1 Ground
- If equipped with cargo doors, measure:
Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead C4425B-1 Ground Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead C4426B-1 Ground
Is the resistance less than 3 ohms?
Yes INSTALL a new rear window glass. No REPAIR the circuit. - H4 CHECK THE REAR WINDOW DEFROST FUSE
- Ignition OFF.
- Inspect the BJB fuse 90 (25A).
Is the fuse OK?
Yes GO to H5 No REFER to the OEM ELECTRICAL WIRING DIAGRAM INTRODUCTION to identify the possible causes of the circuit short. - H5 CHECK THE REAR WINDOW DEFROST SWITCH PID (PARAMETER IDENTIFICATION)
- Start the engine.
- Using a diagnostic scan tool, view HVAC module PIDs (Parameter Identifications).
- Monitor the rear window defrost switch PID while pressing and releasing the rear window defrost switch.
Does the PID agree with the rear window defrost switch status?
Yes GO to H6 No GO to H10 - H6 CHECK THE REAR WINDOW DEFROST OUTPUT CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN
- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect: BJB C1035A.
- If equipped with liftgate, measure:
Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead C402A-1 C1035A-50
- If equipped with cargo doors, measure:
Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead C4425A-1 C1035A-50
Is the resistance less than 3 ohms?
Yes GO to H11 No REPAIR the circuit. - H7 CHECK THE LIN (LOCAL INTERCONNECT NETWORK) CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE
- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect: BCM C2280E.
- Disconnect: BJB C1035A.
- Ignition ON.
- Measure:
Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead C1035A-48 Ground
Is any voltage present?
Yes REPAIR the circuit. No GO to H8 - H8 CHECK THE LIN (LOCAL INTERCONNECT NETWORK) CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
- Ignition OFF.
- Measure:
Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead C1035A-48 Ground
Is the resistance greater than 10, 000 ohms?
Yes GO to H9 No REPAIR the circuit. - H9 CHECK THE LIN (LOCAL INTERCONNECT NETWORK) CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN
Is the resistance less than 3 ohms?
Yes GO to H12 No REPAIR the circuit. - H10 CHECK FOR CORRECT HVAC (HEATING, VENTILATION AND AIR CONDITIONING) MODULE OPERATION
- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect and inspect all the HVAC module connectors.
- Repair:
- corrosion (install new connector or terminals - clean module pins)
- damaged or bent pins - install new terminals/pins as necessary
- pushed-out pins - install new pins as necessary
- Reconnect the HVAC module connectors and all previously disconnected rear window defrost system connectors. Make sure they seat and latch correctly.
- Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.
Is the concern still present?
Yes CHECK OASIS for any applicable service articles: TSB, GSB, SSM or FSA. If a service article exists for this concern, DISCONTINUE this test and FOLLOW the service article instructions. If no service articles address this concern, INSTALL a new HVAC module. Refer to the appropriate Climate Control System article for the procedure. No The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by poor connections. ADDRESS the root cause of any connector or pin issues. - H11 CHECK FOR CORRECT BJB (BATTERY JUNCTION BOX) OPERATION
- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect and inspect all the BJB connectors.
- Repair:
- corrosion (install new connector or terminals - clean module pins)
- damaged or bent pins - install new terminals/pins as necessary
- pushed-out pins - install new pins as necessary
- Reconnect the BJB connectors and all previously disconnected rear window defrost system connectors. Make sure they seat and latch correctly.
- Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.
Is the concern still present?
Yes CHECK OASIS for any applicable service articles: TSB, GSB, SSM or FSA. If a service article exists for this concern, DISCONTINUE this test and FOLLOW the service article instructions. If no service articles address this concern, INSTALL a new BJB. No The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by poor connections. ADDRESS the root cause of any connector or pin issues. - H12 CHECK FOR CORRECT BJB (BATTERY JUNCTION BOX) AND BCM (BODY CONTROL MODULE) OPERATION
- Inspect the BJB and BCM connectors.
- Repair:
- corrosion (install new connector or terminals - clean module pins)
- damaged or bent pins - install new terminals/pins as necessary
- pushed-out-pins - install new pins as necessary
- Reconnect the BJB and BCM connectors and all other previously disconnected defrost system connectors. Make sure they seat and latch correctly.
- Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.
Is the concern still present?
Yes CHECK OASIS for any applicable service articles: TSB, GSB, SSM or FSA. If a service article exists for this concern, DISCONTINUE this test and FOLLOW the service article instructions. If no service articles address this concern, INSTALL a new BJB. Operate the system and determine if concern is still present. If concern is still present, INSTALL a new BCM. REFER to: Body Control Module (BCM) . No The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by poor connections. ADDRESS the root cause of any connector or pin issues.
