Pinpoint Test G: A Single Power Window Is Inoperative - RH (Right-Hand) Rear

  1. NOTE: If both rear windows are inoperative, GO to Pinpoint Test C 

    Refer to POWER WINDOWS for schematic and connector information.

    Normal Operation and Fault Conditions 

    REFER to: Glass, Frames and Mechanisms - Vehicles With: One-Touch Open Driver Window - System Operation and Component Description .

    Possible Sources 

    • Wiring, terminals or connectors
    • Master window control switch
    • RH rear window control switch
    • RH rear window regulator motor

    Visual Inspection and Pre-checks 

    • Verify the lock-out switch is in the UNLOCK position.

  2. G1 CHECK THE VOLTAGE TO THE INOPERATIVE REAR WINDOW CONTROL SWITCH

    • Ignition OFF.

    • Disconnect: Rear Window Control Switch RH C819.

    • Ignition ON.

    • Make sure the rear passenger window lock-out switch (located in the master window control switch) is in the UNLOCK position.

    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

      Ground

    Is the voltage greater than 11 volts? 

    Yes  GO to  G2
    No  REPAIR the circuit in question.
  3. G2 CHECK THE MASTER WINDOW CONTROL SWITCH NORMALLY CLOSED GROUND CIRCUITS FOR AN OPEN

    • Ignition OFF.

    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

      Ground

    Are the resistances less than 3 ohms? 

    Yes  GO to  G4
    No  GO to  G3
  4. G3 CHECK THE POWER WINDOW CONTROL CIRCUITS FOR AN OPEN

    • Disconnect: Master Window Control Switch C504C.

    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

    Is the resistance less than 3 ohms for both measurements? 

    Yes  INSTALL a new master window control switch. REFER to: Front Door Window Control Switch .
    No  REPAIR the circuit in question.
  5. G4 CHECK THE RH (RIGHT-HAND) REAR POWER WINDOW UPWARD AND/OR DOWNWARD OPERATION

    • Ignition ON.

    • To check downward window operation, connect fused jumper wires:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

    • To check upward window operation, connect fused jumper wires:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

    Does the RH rear window move up and/or down? 

    Yes  REMOVE the jumper wires. If the rear window did not operate from the rear window control switch, INSTALL a new RH rear window control switch. If the rear window did not operate from the master window control switch, INSTALL a new master window control switch. REFER to: Front Door Window Control Switch .
    No  REMOVE the jumper wires. GO to  G5
  6. G5 CHECK THE RH (RIGHT-HAND) REAR POWER WINDOW CIRCUITS FOR AN OPEN

    • Ignition OFF.

    • Disconnect: RH Rear Power Window Motor C803.

    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

    Are the resistances less than 3 ohms? 

    Yes  MAKE SURE there are no mechanical binding conditions preventing the glass mechanism from operating correctly. If a mechanical binding issue is found, REPAIR as necessary. If no mechanical binding condition exists, INSTALL a new RH rear window regulator motor.
    No  REPAIR the circuit in question.
