Pinpoint Test Bk: The Chime Only Sounds From The IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster)

  1. Normal Operation and Fault Conditions 

    REFER to: Message Center - System Operation and Component Description .

    DTC Fault Trigger Conditions 

    DTC Description Fault Trigger Condition
    DSP B13F8:13 Audio Input 2: Circuit Open Set by the audio DSP module when an open is detected on the LH chime signal circuits between the ACM and audio DSP module.
    DSP B13FA:13 Audio Input 4: Circuit Open Set by the audio DSP module when an open is detected on the RH chime signal circuits between the ACM and audio DSP module.

    Possible Sources 

    • Wiring, terminals or connectors
    • Communication concern
    • ACM concern
    • DSP concern

  2. BK1 PERFORM THE IPC (INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER) SELF-TEST

    • Ignition ON.

    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, perform the IPC self-test.

    Are any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) recorded? 

    Yes  REFER to Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Chart 
    No  GO to  BK2
  3. BK2 PERFORM THE ACM (AUDIO FRONT CONTROL MODULE) SELF-TEST

    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, perform the ACM self-test.

    Are any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) recorded? 

    Yes  Without touchscreen audio, With touchscreen audio,
    No  GO to  BK3
  4. BK3 CHECK FOR CORRECT AUDIO SYSTEM OPERATION

    • Operate the audio system in AM/ FM mode.

    Does the audio system operate correctly? 

    Yes  If not  equipped with the touchscreen audio system, GO to  BK15 If equipped with the touchscreen audio system, GO to  BK4
    No  Diagnose the audio system.
  5. BK4 PERFORM THE AUDIO DSP (AUDIO DIGITAL SIGNAL PROCESSING MODULE) MODULE SELF-TEST

    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, perform the audio DSP module self-test.

    Are any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) recorded? 

    Yes  For DTC B13F8:13, GO to  BK5 For DTC B13FA:13, GO to  BK10
    For all other Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs),
    No  GO to  BK15
  6. BK5 CHECK THE LHR (LEFT-HAND REAR) AUDIO SIGNAL TO THE AUDIO DSP (AUDIO DIGITAL SIGNAL PROCESSING MODULE) MODULE

    • Ignition OFF.

    • Disconnect Audio DSP Module C2385A .

    • Ignition ON.

    • Operate the audio system in AM/ FM mode.

    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

    Is a fluctuating AC voltage present? 

    Yes  GO to  BK17
    No  GO to  BK6
  7. BK6 CHECK THE LHR (LEFT-HAND REAR) AUDIO SIGNAL TO THE AUDIO DSP (AUDIO DIGITAL SIGNAL PROCESSING MODULE) MODULE FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE

    • Ignition OFF.

    • Ignition ON.

    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

    Is any voltage present? 

    Yes  REPAIR the circuit in question.
    No  GO to  BK7
  8. BK7 CHECK THE LHR (LEFT-HAND REAR) AUDIO SIGNAL TO THE AUDIO DSP (AUDIO DIGITAL SIGNAL PROCESSING MODULE) MODULE FOR A SHORT TO GROUND

    • Ignition OFF.

    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

    Are the resistances greater than 10, 000 ohms? 

    Yes  GO to  BK8
    No  REPAIR the circuit in question.
  9. BK8 CHECK THE LHR (LEFT-HAND REAR) AUDIO SIGNAL TO THE AUDIO DSP (AUDIO DIGITAL SIGNAL PROCESSING MODULE) MODULE FOR AN OPEN

    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

    Are the resistances less than 3 ohms? 

    Yes  GO to  BK9
    No  REPAIR the circuit in question.
  10. BK9 CHECK THE LHR (LEFT-HAND REAR) AUDIO SIGNAL TO THE AUDIO DSP (AUDIO DIGITAL SIGNAL PROCESSING MODULE) MODULE FOR A SHORT TOGETHER

    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

    Is the resistance greater than 10, 000 ohms? 

    Yes  GO to  BK15
    No  REPAIR the circuits.
  11. BK10 CHECK THE RHR (RIGHT-HAND REAR) AUDIO SIGNAL TO THE AUDIO DSP (AUDIO DIGITAL SIGNAL PROCESSING MODULE) MODULE

    • Ignition OFF.

    • Disconnect Audio DSP Module C2385A .

    • Ignition ON.

    • Operate the audio system in AM/ FM mode.

    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

    Is a fluctuating AC voltage present? 

    Yes  GO to  BK17
    No  GO to  BK11
  12. BK11 CHECK THE RHR (RIGHT-HAND REAR) AUDIO SIGNAL TO THE AUDIO DSP (AUDIO DIGITAL SIGNAL PROCESSING MODULE) MODULE FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE

    • Ignition OFF.

    • Ignition ON.

    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

    Is any voltage present? 

    Yes  REPAIR the circuit in question.
    No  GO to  BK12
  13. BK12 CHECK THE RHR (RIGHT-HAND REAR) AUDIO SIGNAL TO THE AUDIO DSP (AUDIO DIGITAL SIGNAL PROCESSING MODULE) MODULE FOR A SHORT TO GROUND

    • Ignition OFF.

    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

    Are the resistances greater than 10, 000 ohms? 

    Yes  GO to  BK13
    No  REPAIR the circuit in question.
  14. BK13 CHECK THE RHR (RIGHT-HAND REAR) AUDIO SIGNAL TO THE AUDIO DSP (AUDIO DIGITAL SIGNAL PROCESSING MODULE) MODULE FOR AN OPEN

    Are the resistances less than 3 ohms? 

    Yes  GO to  BK14
    No  REPAIR the circuit in question.
  15. BK14 CHECK THE RHR (RIGHT-HAND REAR) AUDIO SIGNAL TO THE AUDIO DSP (AUDIO DIGITAL SIGNAL PROCESSING MODULE) MODULE FOR A SHORT TOGETHER

    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

    Is the resistance greater than 10, 000 ohms? 

    Yes  GO to  BK15
    No  REPAIR the circuit in question.
  16. BK15 CHECK FOR CORRECT ACM (AUDIO FRONT CONTROL MODULE) OPERATION

    • Ignition OFF.

    • Disconnect and inspect all the ACM connectors.

    • Repair:

      • corrosion (install new connector or terminals - clean module pins)
      • damaged or bent pins - install new terminals/pins
      • pushed-out pins - install new pins as necessary

    • Reconnect the ACM connectors. Make sure they seat and latch correctly.

    • Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.

    Is the concern still present? 

    Yes  CHECK OASIS for any applicable service articles: TSB, GSB, SSM or FSA. If a service article exists for this concern, DISCONTINUE this test and FOLLOW the service article instructions. If no service articles address this concern, INSTALL a new ACM. AM/ FM/ CD/SYNC® audio system) or (touchscreen audio system). TEST the system for normal operation. If the chimes still do not sound through the audio system, GO to  BK16
    No  The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by module connections. ADDRESS the root cause of any connector or pin issues.
  17. BK16 CHECK FOR CORRECT IPC (INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER) OPERATION

    • Ignition OFF.

    • Disconnect and inspect all IPC connector.

    • Repair:

      • corrosion (install new connector or terminals - clean module pins)
      • damaged or bent pins - install new terminals/pins
      • pushed-out pins - install new pins as necessary

    • Reconnect the IPC connector. Make sure it seats and latches correctly.

    • Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.

    Is the concern still present? 

    Yes  CHECK OASIS for any applicable service articles: TSB, GSB, SSM or FSA. If a service article exists for this concern, DISCONTINUE this test and FOLLOW the service article instructions. If no service articles address this concern, INSTALL a new IPC. Refer to Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC)  .
    No  The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by module connections. ADDRESS the root cause of any connector or pin issues.
  18. BK17 CHECK FOR CORRECT AUDIO DSP (AUDIO DIGITAL SIGNAL PROCESSING MODULE) MODULE OPERATION

    • Ignition OFF.

    • Disconnect and inspect all the audio DSP module connectors.

    • Repair:

      • corrosion (install new connector or terminals - clean module pins)
      • damaged or bent pins - install new terminals/pins
      • pushed-out pins - install new pins as necessary

    • Reconnect the audio DSP module connectors. Make sure they seat and latch correctly.

    • Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.

    Is the concern still present? 

    Yes  CHECK OASIS for any applicable service articles: TSB, GSB, SSM or FSA. If a service article exists for this concern, DISCONTINUE this test and FOLLOW the service article instructions. If no service articles address this concern, INSTALL a new audio DSP module. REFER to: Universal Serial Bus (USB) Hub .
    No  The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by module connections. ADDRESS the root cause of any connector or pin issues.
