Cylinder Head LH: Installation

  1. Install the cylinder head gasket.

  2. NOTE: The cylinder head bolts are torque-to-yield and must not be reused. New cylinder head bolts must be installed.

    Install the cylinder head and the new bolts.

    Torque: Stage 1: 22 lb.ft (30 Nm) | Stage 2: 37 lb.ft (50 Nm) | Stage 3: Tighten an additional : 90° | Stage 4: Tighten an additional : 90° | Stage 5: Tighten an additional : 90°

  3. NOTE: Do not position the legs of the Engine Support Bar on the fenders. Instead, the legs should be positioned on the body structure. Failure to follow these instructions may result in body damage.

    Install Special Service Tool: 303-639 Support Bracket, Engine., 303-F070 Support Bar, Engine.

  4. Using the special tools, raise the engine 25 mm (1 inch). Use Special Service Tool: 303-F070 Support Bar, Engine., 303-639 Support Bracket, Engine.

  5. Remove the fasteners and the LH motor mount bracket.

  6. Install new studs.

    Torque: 18 lb.ft (25 Nm)

  7. Install a new gasket.

    1. Position the LH exhaust manifold onto the engine and finger-tighten the nuts.
    2. Tighten the nuts in the sequence shown.

      Torque: Stage 1: 18 lb.ft (24 Nm) | Stage 2: 24 lb.ft (32 Nm)

  8. Connect the LH HO2S sensor.

  9. Install the LH engine mount bracket and the fasteners.

    Torque: Bolts: 41 lb.ft (55 Nm) Stud bolt: 46 lb.ft (63 Nm)

  10. WARNING: DO NOT hammer, pry or force steering column and column shafts during installation or removal. Failure to follow this instruction may cause damage to steering components that could lead to loss of steering control during vehicle operation and could result in serious personal injury or death.
    WARNING: DO NOT attempt to remove or install the steering column lower u-joint at the steering gear without first loosening the steering column dash seal and fasteners. Failure to follow this instruction may cause damage to steering components that could lead to loss of steering control during vehicle operation and could result in serious personal injury or death.

    1. Connect the steering column shaft to the steering gear universal joint.
    2. Install the new steering column shaft bolt.

      Torque: 22 lb.ft (30 Nm)

  11. Inspect the steering column lower shaft. Refer to: Steering Column Collapsed Check .
  12. Using the special tools, lower the engine onto the engine mounts. Use Special Service Tool: 303-F070 Support Bar, Engine., 303-639 Support Bracket, Engine.

  14. Install the RH engine mount nut.

    Torque: 46 lb.ft (63 Nm)

  15. Install the LH engine mount nut.

    Torque: 46 lb.ft (63 Nm)

  16. Connect the oil cooler hoses and install the bolts.

    Torque: 22 lb.ft (30 Nm)

  17. Install the LH catalytic converter. Refer to: Catalytic Converter LH .
  18. Install a new gasket.

  19. Install the coolant outlet and the bolts.

    Torque: 89 lb.in (10 Nm)

  20. Attach the wiring harness retainer to the cylinder head.

    1. Connect the RFI capacitor and the intake CMP sensor.
    2. Connect the exhaust CMP sensor and position the insulator.
    3. Connect the ground strap and install the nut.

      Torque: 97 lb.in (11 Nm)

  21. Install the following items:

    1. LH camshafts. Refer to: Camshaft LH .
    2. Supercharger. Refer to: Supercharger .
    3. Hood. Refer to: Hood .

  22. Remove the holding device.

    1. Position the steering column dash seal.
    2. Tighten the steering column dash seal nuts.

      Torque: 80 lb.in (9 Nm)

  23. Drain the engine oil, install a new engine oil filter and refill the engine with clean engine oil. Refer to: Engine Oil Draining and Filling .
  24. Connect the battery ground and positive cables. Refer to: Battery Disconnect and Connect .
  25. Pressurize the fuel system pressure. Refer to: Fuel System Pressure Release .
  26. Fill and bleed the supercharger cooling system. Refer to: Supercharger Cooling System Draining, Filling and Bleeding .
  27. Fill and bleed the engine cooling system. Refer to: Engine Cooling System Draining, Vacuum Filling and Bleeding .
  28. Start and check the exhaust system for leaks.
  29. Use the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) Misfire Monitor Profile Correction routine in the diagnostic scan tool.
