Engine Oil Draining and Filling

Draining
- With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. Refer to: Jacking and Lifting - Overview .
- Remove the retainer and the access cover.

- Loosen the oil filter housing and allow the oil to drain. Use the General Equipment: Oil Drain Equipment
- Remove the oil filter housing.

NOTE: Make sure all of the oil filter element components are removed from the oil filter housing and the oil filter adapter.
- Remove and discard the oil filter element.
- Remove and discard the O-ring seals.

- Remove the drain plug and allow the engine oil to fully drain. Use the General Equipment: Oil Drain Equipment
- Install the drain plug.
Torque: 19 lb.ft (26 Nm)

- Wipe the threads and O-ring sealing surfaces with a clean lint-free cloth.
- Inspect the oil filter housing and stem for damage including cracks or separation of the stem from the housing. If damaged, a new oil filter housing assembly must be installed.
Filling

NOTE: Failure to install new oil filter housing O-ring seals may result in oil leakage.NOTE: The smallest O-ring seal that comes with the oil filter is not used for this application.
Install new oil filter housing O-ring seals and lubricate with clean engine oil.
- Install a new oil filter element

- Install the oil filter housing.
Torque: 18 lb.ft (24 Nm)
- Install the access cover and the retainer.
- Fill the engine with clean engine oil. Refer to: Specifications .
