Floor Crane
Trolley Jack

  1. With the aid of an assistant, use the Floor Crane to lower the engine into the vehicle. Use the General Equipment: Floor Crane

    1. With the aid of an assistant, align the engine to the transmission.
    2. Install the stud bolts.

      Torque: 35 lb.ft (48 Nm)

    1. Install the special tool. Install Special Service Tool: 303-F070 Support Bar, Engine.
    2. Once the engine is supported by the Engine Support Bar, remove the Floor Crane from the Engine Lifting Bracket. Use Special Service Tool: 303-F047 Lifting Bracket, Engine., 303-050 (T70P-6000) Lifting Bracket, Engine.Use the General Equipment: Floor Crane

  2. Remove the jack and wooden block. Use the General Equipment: Wooden BlockUse the General Equipment: Trolley Jack

  3. Install the transmission-to-engine stud bolts.

    Torque: 35 lb.ft (48 Nm)

  4. Install LH transmission-to-engine bolt and stud bolt.

    Torque: 35 lb.ft (48 Nm)

    • Install RH transmission-to-engine stud bolt.

      Torque: 35 lb.ft (48 Nm)

    • Install the wiring harness retaining clip and the nut.

      Torque: 97 lb.in (11 Nm)

  5. Install the LH engine mount bracket and the fasteners.

    Torque: Bolts: 41 lb.ft (55 Nm) Stud bolt: 46 lb.ft (63 Nm)

  6. Install the RH engine mount bracket and the fasteners.

    Torque: Bolts: 41 lb.ft (55 Nm) Stud bolts: 46 lb.ft (63 Nm)

  7. Using the special tools, lower the engine onto the engine mounts. Use Special Service Tool: 303-F070 Support Bar, Engine., 303-050 (T70P-6000) Lifting Bracket, Engine., 303-F047 Lifting Bracket, Engine.

  8. Remove Special Service Tool: 303-F070 Support Bar, Engine., 303-050 (T70P-6000) Lifting Bracket, Engine., 303-F047 Lifting Bracket, Engine.

  9. Install the RH engine mount nut.

    Torque: 46 lb.ft (63 Nm)

  10. Install the LH engine mount nut.

  11. Install the top transmission-to-engine stud bolts.

    Torque: 35 lb.ft (48 Nm)

  12. WARNING: DO NOT hammer, pry or force steering column and column shafts during installation or removal. Failure to follow this instruction may cause damage to steering components that could lead to loss of steering control during vehicle operation and could result in serious personal injury or death.
    WARNING: DO NOT attempt to remove or install the steering column lower u-joint at the steering gear without first loosening the steering column dash seal and fasteners. Failure to follow this instruction may cause damage to steering components that could lead to loss of steering control during vehicle operation and could result in serious personal injury or death.

    1. Connect the steering column shaft to the steering gear universal joint.
    2. Install the new steering column shaft bolt.

      Torque: 22 lb.ft (30 Nm)

  13. Inspect the steering column lower shaft. Refer to: Steering Column Collapsed Check .
  14. Install the A/C compressor and the stud bolts.

    Torque: 18 lb.ft (25 Nm)

    1. Attach the wiring harness retainers.
    2. Connect the wiring harness electrical connectors.
    3. Attach the wiring harness bracket to the oil pan stud bolt and install the nut.

      Torque: 124 lb.in (14 Nm)

    4. Install the ground cable and the nut.

      Torque: 35 lb.ft (48 Nm)

  15. Attach the wiring harness retainers.

  16. Connect the oil cooler hoses and install the bolts.

    Torque: 22 lb.ft (30 Nm)

  17. Install a new oil filter. Refer to: Engine Oil Draining and Filling .
  18. Install the following items:

    1. Starter motor. Refer to: Starter Motor .
    2. Transmission fluid cooler tubes. Refer to: Transmission Fluid Cooler Tubes .
    3. RH catalytic converter. Refer to: Catalytic Converter RH .
    4. LH catalytic converter. Refer to: Catalytic Converter LH .
    5. Engine front undershield. Refer to: Engine Front Undershield - GT500 .

    1. Attach the wiring harness retainer.
    2. NOTE: When installing the B+ terminal nut to the generator, finger-start the nut before tightening or component damage may occur.

      Connect the B+ cable and install the nut.

      Torque: 150 lb.in (17 Nm)

    3. Position the cover.
    4. Connect the wiring harness electrical connector.
    5. Position the insulator.

  20. NOTE: Do not final tighten the bolts at this time.

    Install the coolant outlet and the bolts finger tight.

  22. Install the thermostat housing and the fasteners finger tight.

    Torque: Bolts: 89 lb.in (10 Nm) Nuts: 89 lb.in (10 Nm)

  23. Final tighten the coolant outlet bolts.

    Torque: 89 lb.in (10 Nm)

    1. Position the crankcase vent hose and connect the quick release coupling. Refer to: Quick Release Coupling .
    2. Connect the engine wiring harness electrical connectors.
    3. Install the degas bottle and the clamp.
    4. Install the heater hoses and connect the quick release couplings. Refer to: Quick Release Coupling .

    1. Position the degas bottle hose and connect the quick release coupling. Refer to: Quick Release Coupling .
    2. Install the lower radiator hose and the clamp.
    3. Install the upper radiator hose and the clamp.

  24. Connect the PCM electrical connector, the 16 pin electrical connector and attach the wiring harness retainers to the bracket.

  25. Install the supercharger. Refer to: Supercharger .
  26. Install the engine ground wire and nut.

    Torque: 80 lb.in (9 Nm)

  27. Install the battery heat shield and fasteners.

    Torque: 80 lb.in (9 Nm)

  28. Install the following items:

    1. If equipped, crankcase vent oil separator. Refer to: Crankcase Vent Oil Separator - Vehicles With: Race Track Pack .
    2. Battery tray. Refer to: Battery Tray .
    3. Supercharger belt. Refer to: Supercharger Belt .
    4. Cooling fan motor and shroud. Refer to: Cooling Fan Motor and Shroud .
    5. Engine cooling system degas bottle. Refer to: Degas Bottle .
    6. Air cleaner. Refer to: Air Cleaner .
    7. Air cleaner outlet pipe.
    8. Strut tower cross brace. Refer to: Strut Tower Cross Brace - GT500 .
    9. Hood. Refer to: Hood .

  29. Remove the holding device.

    1. Position the steering column dash seal.
    2. Tighten the steering column dash seal nuts.

      Torque: 80 lb.in (9 Nm)

  30. Fill the engine with clean engine oil. Refer to: Specifications .

  31. Connect the battery ground and positive cables. Refer to: Battery Disconnect and Connect .
  32. Pressurize the fuel system pressure. Refer to: Fuel System Pressure Release .
  33. Fill and bleed the supercharger cooling system. Refer to: Supercharger Cooling System Draining, Filling and Bleeding .
  34. Fill and bleed the engine cooling system. Refer to: Engine Cooling System Draining, Vacuum Filling and Bleeding .
  35. Start and check the exhaust system for leaks.
  36. Check the transmission fluid level and adjust as necessary. Refer to: Transmission Fluid Level Check .
  37. Use the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) Misfire Monitor Profile Correction routine in the diagnostic scan tool.
