Pinpoint Test Q: The Parking Aid Switch Function Led (Light Emitting Diode) Is Inoperative Or Always On

  1. Refer to Wiring Diagrams PARKING AID for schematic and connector information.

    Normal Operation and Fault Conditions 

    The PAM supplies voltage to the parking aid disable switch LED when the parking aid system has been disabled using the switch.

    DTC Fault Trigger Conditions 

    DTC Description Fault Trigger Condition
    PAM B1B54:11 Function LED - Park Aid: Circuit Short To Ground A continuous and on-demand DTC that sets when the parking aid disable status LED circuit is shorted to ground.
    PAM B1B54:15 Function LED - Park Aid: Circuit Short To Battery Or Open A continuous and on-demand DTC that sets when the parking aid disable status LED circuit is shorted battery voltage or open.

    Possible Sources 

    • Wiring, terminals or connectors
    • Parking aid disable switch
    • PAM

  2. Q1 RETRIEVE THE DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTCS) FROM THE PAM (PARKING ASSIST CONTROL MODULE) SELF-TEST

    • Ignition ON.

    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, perform the PAM self-test.

    Is DTC B1B54:11 present? 

    Yes  GO to  Q4
    No  If the LED is inoperative, GO to  Q3 If the LED is always on, GO to  Q2
  3. Q2 CHECK THE LED (LIGHT EMITTING DIODE) CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE

    • Ignition OFF.

    • Disconnect PAM C9071A.

    • Ignition ON.

    Does the LED continue to illuminate? 

    Yes  REPAIR the circuit.
    No  GO to  Q7
  4. Q3 CHECK THE LED (LIGHT EMITTING DIODE) CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN

    • Ignition OFF.

    • Disconnect PAM C9071A.

    • Disconnect driver multifunction switch C2035.

    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

    Is the resistance less than 3 ohms? 

    Yes  GO to  Q5
    No  REPAIR the circuit.
  5. Q4 CHECK THE LED (LIGHT EMITTING DIODE) CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND

    • Ignition OFF.

    • Disconnect PAM C9071A.

    • Disconnect driver multifunction switch C2035.

    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

      Ground

    Is the resistance greater than 10, 000 ohms? 

    Yes  GO to  Q5
    No  REPAIR the circuit.
  6. Q5 CHECK THE LED (LIGHT EMITTING DIODE) WITH THE PAM (PARKING ASSIST CONTROL MODULE) BYPASSED

    • Connect driver multifunction switch C2035.

    • Connect a fused jumper wire:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

      Battery positive

    Does the LED illuminate? 

    Yes  REMOVE the fused jumper wire. GO to  Q7
    No  GO to  Q6
  7. Q6 CHECK THE AUTO-START-STOP-DEACTIVATION SWITCH GROUND

    • Disconnect driver multifunction switch C2035.

    • Measure
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead
      C2035-12

      Ground

    Is the resistance less than 3 ohms? 

    Yes  INSTALL a new auto-start-stop-deactivation switch.
    No  REPAIR the circuit.
  8. Q7 CHECK FOR CORRECT PAM (PARKING ASSIST CONTROL MODULE) OPERATION

    • Ignition OFF.

    • Disconnect and inspect all PAM connectors.

    • Repair:

      • corrosion (install new connector or terminals - clean module pins)
      • damaged or bent pins - install new terminals/pins
      • pushed-out pins - install new pins as necessary

    • Reconnect the PAM connectors. Make sure they seat and latch correctly.

    • Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.

    Is the concern still present? 

    Yes  CHECK OASIS for any applicable service articles: TSB, GSB, SSM or FSA. If a service article exists for this concern, DISCONTINUE this test and FOLLOW the service article instructions. If no service articles address this concern, INSTALL a new PAM. INSTALL a new PAM
    No  The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. ADDRESS the root cause of any connector or pin issues.
