Pinpoint Test I : Park Lock Pawl Solenoid

WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.
  1. Refer to Transmission Controls for schematic and connector information.

    Normal Operation and Fault Conditions

The park lock pawl solenoid locks the park lock pawl valve when energized, either in the park position or the out of park position. The park lock pawl solenoid is locked in the extended position when voltage is applied to it and able to be retracted when the voltage is not applied. This solenoid is used to keep the vehicle out of park during stop start events and in stay in neutral mode.

    DTC Fault Trigger Conditions

    DTC Description Fault Trigger Condition
PCM P07E4:00 Unable to Engage Park: No Sub Type Information This DTC sets if the PCM park lock pawl actuator circuit performance detects that the movement to Park timed out.
PCM P07E6:00 Stuck in Park: No Sub Type Information This DTC sets if the PCM detects the transmission is stuck in Park. This may indicate a stuck park lock pawl solenoid (pin stuck), B or D clutch stuck off, line pressure stuck low, sticking park servo valve (possible contamination), park system hardware fault.
PCM P2888:00 Park Lock/Pawl Actuator Circuit/Open: No Sub Type Information This DTC sets if the PCM detects a open circuit fault or poor connection in the park lock pawl solenoid wiring, or a faulty park lock pawl solenoid.
PCM P2889:00 Park Lock/Pawl Actuator Circuit Low: No Sub Type Information This DTC sets if the PCM detects a short to ground circuit fault in the park lock pawl solenoid wiring, or a faulty park lock pawl solenoid.
PCM P288A:00 Park Lock/Pawl Actuator Circuit High: No Sub Type Information This DTC sets if the PCM detects a short to power circuit fault in the park lock pawl solenoid or circuitry.
PCM P288B:00 Park Lock/Pawl Actuator Circuit Performance: No Sub Type Information This DTC sets if the PCM detects a circuit fault in the park lock pawl solenoid or circuitry and the park lock pawl solenoid is functionally stuck off. This DTC may also be set when the driver selects the stay in neutral mode and the system recognizes that the system cannot keep the park valve locked out of park. Under these conditions the park valve returns to the park position uncommanded. A start stop event was attempted but the park lock pawl solenoid did not keep the transmission out of park disabling the start stop function.

    Possible Sources

    • Park is manually released
    • Low line pressure
    • Circuit open or shorted
    • Connectors damaged or pushed-out terminals, corrosion, loose wires and missing or damaged seals
    • Transmission internal wiring harness
    • Park lock pawl solenoid
    • PCM

  2. I1 RETRIEVE AND RECORD ALL DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTCS)
