Special Tool(s) / General Equipment 

Materials 

1. Inspect the pilot bearing for wear and/or damage, replace as necessary. Refer to: Pilot Bearing
2. Clean the input shaft and apply a small amount of grease to the splined surface and the pilot bearing surface.

   Material: Grease - High Temperature (WSS-M1C273-A)

3. If the transmission was replaced. Install the gearshift cable mounting bracket and the bolts. If equipped, install the cooler tube bracket.

   Torque: 18 lb.ft (25 Nm)

4. Using a transmission jack and retaining strap, install the transmission and connect the transmission vent tube. Use the General Equipment: Transmission JackUse the General Equipment: Retaining Strap

5. NOTE: Make sure the transmission is seated properly before tightening bolts or damage can happen.

   Install the clutch housing bolts.

   Torque: 35 lb.ft (48 Nm)

6. Install the clutch housing bolts.

   Torque: 35 lb.ft (48 Nm)

7. Position the coolant tube bracket and install the coolant tube bracket nut.

   Torque: 18 lb.ft (25 Nm)

8. Attach the harness retainers. Install the shift cable bracket bolt.

   Torque: 18 lb.ft (25 Nm)

9. Position the starter and install the starter bolts.

   Torque: 35 lb.ft (48 Nm)

10. Position the starter harness bracket and install the starter harness bracket nuts.

    Torque: 133 lb.in (15 Nm)

11. NOTE: If the clutch fluid comes into contact with the painted area, rinse off the affected areas with cold water.

    Remove the cap, connect the clutch hydraulic line and install the retaining clip.

12. 1. Connect the gearshift position sensor and attach the harness retainers.
    2. Install the gearshift cable stud bolt.

       Torque: 18 lb.ft (25 Nm)

    3. Attach the oxygen sensor retainer.
    4. Connect the gearshift cables and install the gearshift cable bolts.

       Torque: 18 lb.ft (25 Nm)

13. Install the transfer case. Refer to: Transfer Case Refer to: Transfer Case
14. Remove the transmission jack and retaining strap. Use the General Equipment: Transmission JackUse the General Equipment: Retaining Strap

15. Install the exhaust hanger bracket and bolts.

    Torque: 18 lb.ft (25 Nm)

16. Install the exhaust hanger bracket nut.

    Torque: 26 lb.ft (35 Nm)

17. Tighten the exhaust hanger bracket bolt.

18. Install the exhaust flexible pipe. Refer to: Exhaust Flexible Pipe
19. Fill the transmission. Refer to: Transmission Draining and Filling 
20. Bleed the clutch. Refer to: Clutch System Bleeding
21. Adjust the gearshift cables. Refer to: Gearshift Cable Adjustment
