Pinpoint Test CJ : The Key-In-Ignition Warning Chime Is Inoperative

  1. Refer to INSTRUMENT CLUSTER for schematic and connector information.

    Normal Operation and Fault Conditions 

    See Key-In-Ignition Warning Chime. REFER to: Warning Chimes - System Operation and Component Description .

    DTC Fault Trigger Conditions 

    DTC Description Fault Trigger Condition
    BCM B10F1:14 Key In Switch: Circuit Short To Ground Or Open A continuous and on-demand DTC that sets in the BCM if an open is detected on the key-in-ignition switch input with the ignition ON.

    Possible Sources 

    • Wiring, terminals or connectors
    • Interior lighting concern
    • Key-in-ignition switch (part of the ignition switch)
    • BCM
    • GWM
    • IPC

  2. CJ1 CHECK THE SEATBELT WARNING CHIME OPERATION

    • Ignition OFF.

    • Ignition ON.

    • Monitor the seatbelt warning chime when the ignition switch is transitioned from OFF to RUN for 6 seconds.

    Does the seatbelt warning chime operate for approximately 6 seconds? 

    Yes  GO to  CJ2
    No  GO to Pinpoint Test CQ 
  3. CJ2 CHECK THE INTERIOR LAMPS OPERATION

    • Open and close the driver door.

    • Observe the interior lamps.

    Do the interior lamps operate correctly from the driver door? 

    Yes  GO to  CJ3
    No  REFER to: Interior Lighting .
  4. CJ3 CHECK THE GWM (GATEWAY MODULE A) DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTCS)

    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, check the GWM Continuous Memory Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs).

    Are any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) recorded? 

    Yes  REFER to: Communications Network .
    No  GO to  CJ4
  5. CJ4 PERFORM THE BCM (BODY CONTROL MODULE) SELF-TEST

    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, perform the BCM self-test.

    Is DTC B10F1:14 present? 

    Yes  GO to  CJ5
    No  GO to  CJ8
  6. CJ5 CHECK THE KEY-IN-IGNITION INPUT CIRCUIT FOR VOLTAGE

    • Ignition OFF.

    • Insert the key into the ignition cylinder.

    • Disconnect BCM C2280D.

    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

      Ground

    Is the voltage greater than 11 volts? 

    Yes  GO to  CJ8
    No  GO to  CJ6
  7. CJ6 CHECK THE KEY-IN-IGNITION INPUT CIRCUIT FOR SHORT TO GROUND

    • Remove the key from the ignition cylinder.

    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

      Ground

    Is the resistance greater than 10, 000 ohms? 

    Yes  GO to  CJ7
    No  REPAIR the circuit.
  8. CJ7 CHECK THE KEY-IN-IGNITION INPUT CIRCUIT FOR OPEN

    • Disconnect Ignition Switch C250.

    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

    Is the resistance less than 3 ohms? 

    Yes  REPAIR the circuit.
    No  DIAGNOSE the ignition switch. REFER to: Steering Wheel and Column Electrical Components .
  9. CJ8 CHECK FOR CORRECT BCM (BODY CONTROL MODULE) OPERATION

    • Ignition OFF.

    • Disconnect and inspect the BCM connectors.

    • Repair:

      • corrosion (install new connector or terminals - clean module pins)
      • damaged or bent pins - install new terminals/pins
      • pushed-out pins - install new pins as necessary

    • Reconnect the BCM connectors. Make sure they seat and latch correctly.

    • Operate the system and verify the concern is still present

    Is the concern still present? 

    Yes  CHECK On-Line Automotive Service Information System (OASIS) for any applicable service articles: TSB, GSB, SSM or FSA. If a service article exists for this concern, DISCONTINUE this test and FOLLOW the service article instructions. If no service articles address this concern, Refer to BCM GUIDED ROUTINE
    No  The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by module connections. ADDRESS the root cause of any connector or pin issues.
