Pinpoint Test M : The Brake Warning Indicator Is Always On

  1. NOTE: The ABS warning indicator, stability-traction control indicator (sliding car icon), stability-traction control disabled (sliding car OFF icon) and the brake warning indicator illuminate if the input to illuminate the brake warning indicator is sent by the ABS module.

Refer to Instrument Cluster for schematic and connector information.

    Normal Operation and Fault Conditions

If the BCM doesn't receive the brake (red) warning indicator request from the ABS module, the BCM sets DTC U0121:00

If the brake fluid level low, brake (red) warning request or parking brake warning indicator request messages are missing or invalid for less than the programmed time threshold, the IPC sets DTC U0140:00 and defaults the brake warning indicator to the last indication mode (on/off) based upon the last message received.

If the brake warning request message is missing from the BCM for more than a programmed length of time or longer, the BCM and the IPC set DTC U0121:00 and defaults the brake warning indicator on.

If the parking brake warning request or brake fluid level low message are missing from the BCM for the programmed time or longer, the IPC sets DTC U0140:00 and defaults the brake warning indicator on.

See Brake Warning Indicator, Parking Brake Position Switch and Brake Fluid Level Switch. REFER to: Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) - System Operation and Component Description .

    DTC Fault Trigger Conditions

    DTC Description Fault Trigger Condition
BCM B1048:13 Brake Fluid Level Switch: Circuit Open A continuous and on-demand DTC that sets in the BCM when the BCM detects an open on the brake fluid level switch input.
BCM B1048:1E Brake Fluid Level Switch: Circuit Resistance Out Of Range A continuous and on-demand DTC that sets in the BCM when the BCM detects an out of range brake fluid level switch input.
BCM B1048:7B Brake Fluid Level Switch: Low Fluid Level A continuous and on-demand DTC that sets in the BCM when the BCM detects low brake fluid level.
BCM C1D00:00 Park Brake Apply Switch: No Sub Type Information A continuous and on-demand DTC that sets in the BCM when the BCM detects the parking brake applied or a short to ground on the parking brake input.
