  1. Refer to Instrument Cluster for schematic and connector information.

    Normal Operation and Fault Conditions

See Door Ajar Chime, Key-In-Ignition Warning Chime, Headlamps On Warning Chime, Information Chime and PRNDL Not In Park Warning Chime. REFER to: Warning Chimes - System Operation and Component Description .

    DTC Fault Trigger Conditions

    DTC Description Fault Trigger Condition
BCM B10F1:13 Key In Switch: Circuit Open An on-demand DTC that sets if the BCM detects an open on the key-in-ignition switch input circuit or if the BCM detects ignition START, RUN/START or RUN/ACC inputs without the key-in-ignition input.

    Possible Sources

    • Wiring, terminals or connectors
    • Exterior lighting concern
    • Interior lighting concern
    • PRNDL concern
    • Key-in-ignition warning switch (part of the ignition switch)
    • BCM
    • IPC

  2. AT1 CHECK THE IPC (INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER) FOR MESSAGE CENTER MESSAGES

    • Ignition ON.

    • Check the IPC and message center for illuminated warning indicator or message center displays.

Does the IPC have any message center messages displayed?

Yes  REFER to Symptom Chart: IPC  or Symptom Chart: Message Center .
    No  GO to  AT2
  3. AT2 CHECK THE EXTERIOR LIGHTING OPERATION

    • Place the headlamp switch in the OFF position.

    • Close all doors.

    • Wait one minute.

    • Observe the exterior lights.

Are the headlamps and parking lamps off?

    Yes  GO to  AT3
No  REFER to: Headlamps . REFER to: Parking, Rear and License Plate Lamps .
  4. AT3 CHECK THE INTERIOR LIGHTING OPERATION

    • Open and close the driver door.

    • Observe the interior lights.

Do the interior lights operate correctly from the driver door?

    Yes  GO to  AT4
No  REFER to: Interior Lighting .
  5. AT4 CHECK THE PRNDL OPERATION

    • Shift the transmission through the ranges and observe the PRNDL display operation.

Does the PRNDL indicate the correct gear and display P when in PARK (P)?

    Yes  GO to  AT5
No  REFER to: Interior Lighting .
  6. AT5 RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTCS) FROM THE BCM (BODY CONTROL MODULE) SELF-TEST

    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, perform the BCM self-test.

Are any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) present?

Yes  For DTC B10F1:13, GO to  AT6 For all other Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs), REFER to: Body Control Module (BCM) .
    No  GO to  AT8
  7. AT6 CHECK THE KEY-IN-IGNITION INPUT CIRCUIT FOR VOLTAGE AT THE BCM (BODY CONTROL MODULE)

    • Ignition OFF.

    • Remove the key from the ignition cylinder.

    • Disconnect BCM C2280D.

    • Measure:
Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead
      C2280D-62

      Ground

    Is any voltage present?

    Yes  GO to  AT7
    No  GO to  AT8
  8. AT7 CHECK KEY-IN-IGNITION INPUT CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE AT THE BCM (BODY CONTROL MODULE) WITH THE IGNITION SWITCH DISCONNECTED

    • Disconnect Ignition Switch C250.

    • Measure:
Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead
      C2280D-62
      GFD311131Courtesy of FORD MOTOR COMPANY
      Ground

    Is any voltage present?

    Yes  REPAIR the circuit.
No  INSTALL a new ignition switch. REFER to: Ignition Switch .
  9. AT8 CHECK FOR CORRECT BCM (BODY CONTROL MODULE) OPERATION

    • Ignition OFF.

    • Disconnect and inspect all BCM connectors.

    • Repair:

      • corrosion (install new connector or terminals - clean module pins)
      • damaged or bent pins - install new terminals/pins
      • pushed-out pins - install new pins as necessary

    • Reconnect the BCM connectors. Make sure they seat and latch correctly.

    • Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present

    Is the concern still present?

Yes  CHECK OASIS for any applicable Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs). If a TSB exists for this concern, DISCONTINUE this test and FOLLOW TSB instructions. If no Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs) address this concern, INSTALL a new BCM. REFER to: Body Control Module (BCM) .
No  The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by module connections. ADDRESS the root cause of any connector or pin issues.
