Pinpoint Test U : The LH (Left-Hand) - RH (Right-Hand) Turn Signal, High Beam Front Fog Lamp Or Rear Fog Lamp (If Equipped) Indicator Is Never Or Always On

  1. Normal Operation and Fault Conditions 

    See LH- RH Turn Signal Indicator, High Beam Indicator, Front Fog Lamp Indicator or Rear Fog Lamp Indicator. REFER to: Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) - System Operation and Component Description .

    If the left turn lamp on request, right turn lamp on request, headlamp high/low status, front fog lamp indicator request or rear fog lamp indicator request message is missing for less than 5 seconds, the IPC defaults the turn signal, high beam front fog lamp or rear fog lamp indicator to its last indication state (on or off), based upon the last message received.

    If the left turn lamp on request, right turn lamp on request, headlamp high/low status, front fog lamp indicator request or rear fog lamp indicator request message is missing for 5 seconds or longer, the IPC defaults the turn signal, high beam, front fog lamp or rear fog lamp indicator off.

    Possible Sources 

    • Turn signal concern
    • High beam concern
    • Communication concern
    • BCM
    • IPC

  2. U1 DETERMINE THE FAULT CONDITION

    • Ignition ON.

    • Check the operation of the high beams, front fog lamps, rear fog lamps (if equipped) or turn signals.

    Do the high beams, front fog lamps, rear fog lamps (if equipped) or turn signals operate correctly? 

    Yes  GO to  U2
    No  For high beams, REFER to: Headlamps . For turn signals, REFER to: Turn Signal and Hazard Lamps . For the front or rear fog lamps, REFER to: Fog Lamps .

  3. U2 PERFORM THE IPC (INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER) SELF-TEST

    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, perform the IPC self-test.

    Are any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) recorded? 

    Yes  REFER to DTC Chart: Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) 
    No  GO to  U3

  4. U3 PERFORM THE BCM (BODY CONTROL MODULE) SELF-TEST

    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, perform the BCM self-test.

    Are any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) recorded? 

    Yes  REFER to: Body Control Module (BCM) .
    No  GO to  U4

  5. U4 CHECK THE GWM (GATEWAY MODULE A) DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTCS)

    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, check the GWM Continuous Memory Diagnostic Trouble Codes (CMDTCs).

    Are any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) recorded? 

    Yes 
    No  For a LH or RH turn indicator concern, GO to  U5 For a high beam indicator concern, GO to  U6 For a front fog lamp indicator concern, GO to  U7 For a rear fog lamp indicator concern (if equipped), GO to  U8

  6. U5 CHECK THE LH (LEFT-HAND) AND RH (RIGHT-HAND) TURN INDICATOR OPERATION USING A DIAGNOSTIC SCAN TOOL

    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, view the IPC Parameter Identifications (PIDs).

    • Select the IPCRH or LH turn signal indicator (RH_TURN_L) or (LH_TURN_L) PID.

    • Command the RH or LH turn signal indicator on and off while observing the RH or LH turn signal indicator.

    Does the RH or LH turn signal indicator illuminate when commanded on and turn off when commanded off? 

    Yes  INSTALL a new BCM. REFER to: Body Control Module (BCM) .
    No  INSTALL a new IPC. REFER to: Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) .

  7. U6 CHECK THE HIGH BEAM INDICATOR OPERATION USING A DIAGNOSTIC SCAN TOOL

    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, view the IPC Parameter Identifications (PIDs).

    • Select the IPC high beam indicator (HIGH_BEAM) PID.

    • Command the high beam indicator on and off while observing the high beam indicator.

    Does the high beam indicator illuminate when commanded on and turn off when commanded off? 

    Yes  INSTALL a new BCM. REFER to: Body Control Module (BCM) .
    No  INSTALL a new IPC. REFER to: Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) .

  8. U7 CHECK THE FRONT FOG LAMP INDICATOR OPERATION USING A DIAGNOSTIC SCAN TOOL

    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, view the IPC Parameter Identifications (PIDs).

    • Select the IPC front fog lamp indicator (F_FOG_IND) PID.

    • Command the front fog lamp indicator on and off while observing the front fog lamp indicator.

    Does the front fog lamp indicator illuminate when commanded on and turn off when commanded off? 

    Yes  INSTALL a new BCM. REFER to: Body Control Module (BCM) .
    No  INSTALL a new IPC. REFER to: Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) .

  9. U8 CHECK THE REAR FOG LAMP INDICATOR OPERATION USING A DIAGNOSTIC SCAN TOOL

    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, view the IPC Parameter Identifications (PIDs).

    • Select the IPC rear fog lamp indicator (R_FOG_IND) PID.

    • Command the rear fog lamp indicator on and off while observing the rear fog lamp indicator.

    Does the rear fog lamp indicator illuminate when commanded on and turn off when commanded off? 

    Yes  INSTALL a new BCM. REFER to: Body Control Module (BCM) .
    No  INSTALL a new IPC. REFER to: Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) .
