Pinpoint Test D : The Speedometer Is Inoperative

If the vehicle speed message is missing or invalid for 5 seconds or longer, the IPC defaults the speedometer to 0 km/h (0 mph).
Possible Sources
- Communication concern
- ABS input concern
- GWM concern
- PCM
- IPC
- D1 PERFORM THE IPC (INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER) SELF-TEST
- Ignition ON.
- Using a diagnostic scan tool, perform the IPC self-test.
- Check for recorded Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) from the IPC self-test.
Are any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) recorded?
Yes REFER to DTC Chart: Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) No GO to D2 - D2 PERFORM THE ABS (ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM) MODULE SELF-TEST
- Using a diagnostic scan tool, perform the ABS module self-test.
Are any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) recorded?
Yes REFER to: Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) . or REFER to: Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) and Stability Control . No GO to D3 - D3 PERFORM THE PCM (POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE) KOEO (KEY ON, ENGINE OFF) SELF-TEST
- Using a diagnostic scan tool, perform the PCM KOEOself-test.
- Check for recorded Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) from the PCM self-test.
Are any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) recorded?
Yes REFER to ELECTRONIC ENGINE CONTROLS (1.0L) or refer to ELECTRONIC ENGINE CONTROLS (2.0L) No GO to D4 - D4 CHECK THE GWM (GATEWAY MODULE A) DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTCS)
- Using a diagnostic scan tool, check the GWM Continuous Memory Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs).
Are any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) recorded?
Yes No GO to D5 - D5 PERFORM THE SPEEDOMETER ACTIVE COMMAND USING A SCAN TOOL
- Using a diagnostic scan tool, view the IPC Parameter Identifications (PIDs).
- Select the IPC speedometer (SPDOMETER) PID.
- Command the speedometer on and off while monitoring the speedometer.
Does the speed begin at 0 km/h (0 mph) move to 220 km/h (137 mph) and return to 0 km/h (0 mph)?
Yes Refer to PCM GUIDED ROUTINE TESTING No INSTALL a new IPC. REFER to: Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) .
