Pinpoint Test BA : The Parking Brake Warning Chime Is Inoperative

  1. Normal Operation and Fault Conditions 

    See Parking Brake Warning Chime. REFER to: Warning Chimes - System Operation and Component Description .

    Possible Sources 

    • Brake warning indication concern
    • Communication concern
    • BCM
    • GWM concern
    • ABS module
    • IPC

    Visual Inspection and Pre-checks 

    • Check the operation of the parking brake warning chime with the vehicle moving at least 10 km/h (6.2 mph) and the parking brake slightly applied (just enough to turn the brake warning indicator on without damaging the rear brakes).

  2. BA1 CHECK THE SEATBELT WARNING CHIME OPERATION

    • Ignition OFF.

    • Ignition ON.

    • Unbuckle the driver seatbelt.

    • Monitor the seatbelt warning chime when the ignition is transitioned from OFF to RUN for 6 seconds.

    Does the seatbelt warning chime operate for approximately 6 seconds? 

    Yes  GO to  BA2
    No  GO to Pinpoint Test BC 

  3. BA2 CHECK THE BRAKE WARNING INDICATOR FOR CORRECT OPERATION

    • Apply the parking brake.

    • Observe the brake warning indicator.

    Does the brake warning indicator illuminate? 

    Yes  GO to  BA3
    No  GO to Pinpoint Test O 

  4. BA3 PERFORM THE IPC (INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER) SELF-TEST

    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, perform the IPC self-test.

    Are any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) recorded? 

    Yes  REFER to DTC Chart: Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) 
    No  GO to  BA4

  5. BA4 PERFORM THE BCM (BODY CONTROL MODULE) SELF-TEST

    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, perform the BCM self-test.

    Are any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) recorded? 

    Yes  REFER to: Body Control Module (BCM) .
    No  GO to  BA5

  6. BA5 CHECK THE GWM (GATEWAY MODULE A) DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTCS)

    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, check the GWM Continuous Memory Diagnostic Trouble Codes (CMDTCs).

    Are any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) recorded? 

    Yes 
    No  INSTALL a new BCM. REFER to: Body Control Module (BCM) .
